Description
I thought this would be a fun deviation to view as this chart makes you guide yourself through the length of all of these movie's wide runs in theaters. Notice how short and long each of these movies are. And seeing how interactive my other infographic was with you checking the letters of each rating that corresponds with your first name, how about I do it here? But before I ask you a question, I need to break down this chart:How does this chart work? The title is self-explanatory; it shows all the major releases this year that at least had a wide release this year with the line indicating the length of the movie's wide release and the point where it stops indicates the week that the movie's wide release concluded. For example, Avengers: Endgame lasted for about three months in wide release and ended its wide release on July 25, most likely being replaced by screenings of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I also included releases from last year since they were still in theaters everywhere at the time. Not all of them are included as some of them ended didn't end their wide release this year
But with movies that started out limited and slowly rise to have a relatively small wide release aren't included because adding them would make the chart look a bit cluttered with the limited release line (which indicates the movie's initial release date not counting film festivals) so that means some of the Best Picture Nominees aren't included like The Favourite. According to BoxOfficeMojo, a wide release is at least 600 theaters and while I can include some (such as Don't Let Go), I can't include all of them since that's going to be a little too much research and organizing on this chart. And for movies that have a 2nd wide run as some were added back to theaters everywhere at some point (such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), again, too much organizing that'll make the chart a little too cluttered so I only include the movie's 1st wide run.
If you're wondering about the left column, it indicates the week these movies fall in, specifically the week the week's Friday falls into. Some of these movies didn't actually premiere on those dates but rather on said week.
And that is all I have to describe this chart. If you're wondering about something or wanting to fix an error on this chart, ask me and I can answer or fix it. Now I can ask that question; start with any movie especially at the top and guide yourself down through the chart. If you bump into multiple movies, pick one and follow the movie's wide release path. Which movie did you started and ended with?
Also, if this deviation gets 50 favorites in one month, I'll make another one, this time focusing on the entire decade. If you want this to happen, favorite this deviation to show your support for the creation of the 2010s Movie Wide Run Chart.
Credit goes to The Numbers and BoxOfficeMojo for determining the duration of the wide runs of these movies. (original size was 9370 x 33313 px, 893 MB)
