This is one of the 1st shows I've ever watched in my whole life, and I still love it to this day.

I originally intended to make this scorecard to share my thoughts with the cartoon community. I started off with this scorecard on June 20, 2016, when I first made the scorecard. It wasn't until a month later until I decided to change my ratings because they're obviously aren't my opinions. That's why you see some unpopular opinions in this scorecard when it was first uploaded to DeviantArt and today. A year later, I decided to rewrite my opinions AGAIN because I disagree with some of my opinions on SpongeBob episodes. While I kept some ratings, most of them had a major change either if they're booted up to being divine or just bad. Can you spot the diff?
But when it comes to my critic side, this show is a mixed bag the entire time. Seriously, I have seen lots of debate between pre-movie SpongeBob and post-movie SpongeBob in the last few months, and I decided to make my own scorecard of the show, thus beginning my own series of scorecards I'll be making very soon.
Because of all of the debating, there’s a lot of unpopular opinions in this scorecard. I’m afraid that my scorecard will be controversial, but nowadays, I feel rather glad that it's controversial. The reason why I rated a lot of SpongeBob episodes ample and under is because that the episode that’s ample or under isn’t balanced enough. For example, an episode might have a great sense of comedy but ended up having an inadequate plot, mostly because it focuses more on being funny, which this example appears in most comedies.
I’m aware of some of the episodes I rated to be controversial, but I won’t post my reasons here. Instead, I’ll post them in a different deviation that’ll be my new series called “ControChoices”, where I post mostly my unpopular opinions on a variety of episodes.
Anyways, this show is a mixture of good and bad episodes and a butt load of meh episodes (Alright-Poor). It’s just the fact that it’s not good because despite being funny, the story is weak enough to anchor an episode’s chances of being great, it being a stupid episode overall, or just rehash a lot from the previous episodes, making it into being either so-so or plain bad. In my opinion, SpongeBob had a problem with at least 1 thing varying through the seasons.
There is 1 thing that’s making me want to re-review a couple of SpongeBob episodes (especially the “pre-movie” ones), and that are pre-movie reviews. Pretty much any review like this is missing 1 thing; the story. It can often go in a pretty straightforward path that blocks a lot of episodes into being such masterpieces. Not to mention that some of their endings are just really stupid that I can't excuse it at all. What I seem to notice about the pre-movie seasons is that SpongeBob's characterization can be frustratingly inconsistent where he can act a lot mature than usual in several episodes (Chocolate With Nuts, Party Pooper Pants, Mid-Life Crustacean, etc.). What I also notice about this era is that the episodes can have such bad and simple plots that the progressions they take can be pretty slow and hollow, which in some cases doesn't have lot happen throughout the episode, adding to the boredom factor (The Paper, Chocolate With Nuts).

And if I didn't like pre-movie but liked post-movie better, then why did I put Season 4 in the same category as Seasons 1-3? It's simple really; it's not funny as a lot of the episodes don't have a lot of jokes, the plots and animation can be pretty uncreatively boring and hollow and I know, this show has no continuity, but this season seems to be contradicting itself that the show knows and repeats, including the part where SpongeBob was on the V.I.P. list on Squidward's concert for some reason despite Squidward hating SpongeBob, and the fact that everyone seemed to enjoy his clarinet recital, despite it often being posed as bad throughout the series. Those plot holes happened in Best Day Ever
For Seasons 5-9a, I notice how they were an improvement compared to the first four seasons as that was when the storytelling got more smart and creative with a lot of funny and reasonable plot twists shown here and there. In fact, some of these episodes became pretty bizarre enough with a lot of things happening throughout the episode that I honestly became really engaged in those seasons' episodes. And yes, I think this chunk of the show is the funniest not only because of the plot twists but also due to the unpredictable actions and dialogues of the characters. This is what makes these "Squidward Torture" episodes better as they are cruel but in an unexpectedly hilarious way. Also, the crew knew how to make SpongeBob in-character in situations where he's honest and helpful of other people who appear to be miserable, adding more likability to this character.
SpongeBob was mostly a mixed bag and thanks to that confusion, I don’t know what’s my conclusion of SpongeBob SquarePants. But instead, I’ll just go through a brief summary; SpongeBob SquarePants can be hilarious or tell good stories sometimes, but a lot of the show’s episodes ended up swapping the quality of the show’s story and humor. The show can be executed terribly wrong, but more commonly in the “pre-movie” era and rarely in the “post-movie” era. The characters are mostly solid and interesting but ended up taking their characterization to a different path to the point where they’re either obnoxious or jerky. Thanks to its tackled reputation, I’m calling it a fair show, but not a meh but really close.
I hope you reviewers express your thoughts on my scorecard. Like what the warning sign said, ‘this is my opinion only, so please respect my opinion on each episode’. I don’t mind if you disagree with me, but don’t rage or start a fight in the comment section. It’s very rude for many reviewers and that doesn’t help you become a better user. Thank you.
