If I count reviewing, Dexter's Laboratory is the first Cartoon Network show I've watched. I started watching the show back in July of 2016 when I was at Dallas, but then I took a break from the show to review Wander Over Yonder . But after watching the Avatar series , I went back to watching the show.  I was originally going to review all of Cartoon Network's shows in order, but then there's users like  , who requested me to review shows like The Powerpuff Girls and Steven Universe. I hated doing the scorecard for Dexter because of the lack of title cards from the Dexter's Laboratory wiki , which most of them were gone. Therefore, I had to take screenshots of the title cards and paste them into this scorecard that made Photoshop laggy.

But anyways, now that I, under heavy stress, completed the scorecard and review of Dexter's Laboratory, what are my thoughts? To be honest, this show is a mixed bag the entire time, like SpongeBob Squarepants. For now, I'm not going to trust the pie chart anymore, and instead calculate the final rating from the final rating of the seasons of the show. Not only that, but by looking at the pie chart, this show is starting to look lukewarm. It could've been alright with the Gendy era only, but then came Chris Savino, the same guy who ruined The Powerpuff Girls and brought us all with the one and only The Loud House, who came in and felt like when he became the showrunner, the quality dropped for the show. I don't think Chris Savino is bad and should retire because that's really insane for someone to say that.

Like the other 2 scorecards, Avatar and The Fairly OddParents , I'll split the paragraph into 2 sections that talk about Tartakovsky Dexter and Savino Dexter. Tartakovsky will represent the first 2 seasons (including Ego Trip), while Savino represents the last 2 seasons.

Now then, how's the story?

Tartakovsky: I thought the writing here is ample, nothing great to say about it. There are several episodes that didn't have to do with the show at all, but the others that felt like Dexter's Laboratory shines with creativity and along with appeal. A lot of episodes in this era were pretty average due to the fact that they're not funny (of course, I'm counting humor because Dexter's Laboratory is a comedy), and probably the main reason why I became distracted all of a sudden in the middle of an episode. It's not only because they're dull episodes, it's also the fact that they're not intended to be funny. Because of this, I had a problem watching this show, due to the lack of substance or feeling like cartoons are for dumb children. In all, the writing is annoying for my taste, but because that its episodes can have potential (but woefully waste it like if it were ignorant that it's trashing a show that could've been good), the writing is just okay.

Savino: Compared to Tartakovsky, this is probably the reason why Dexter's Laboratory is filled of horribly failed experimenting. The pacing is slower, It's barely funny at all, the episodes have gotten more generic, some shorts are described as 'filler', and it made Tartakovsky Dexter's cons worse. It felt like the writers can't think hard at this moment, and instead copy what they've seen from Tartakovsky Dexter or other cartoons. While it can be creative at some parts, it can't admit that this show was resurrected into junk. Of all of Savino Dexter's writing, it's one of the follow ups that leads to The Loud Houses awful writing.

Thinking the show has humiliated itself when Savino and the crew embarrassed the show in front of children? Don't worry because the quality could be better:

Tartakovsky: The animation here is pretty good. Though it is similar to other Hanna-Barbera cartoons like 2 Stupid Dogs, I can say the it's solid as it is because of how fairly energetic and cool it can get. The music can get to me often due to the overusage of it. But even if the animation can look like an obvious product of the 1990s, there isn't anything else to say about it. It's just some ample animation.

Savino: Man, I miss Tartakovsky Dexter's solid quality, but why should the backgrounds change? Was it because Dexter's family moved to a new house? Probably. The backgrounds has gotten more primitive and more generic. For example, the kitchen walls reminds me of Blue's Clues and this era took away the giant laboratory that's visible from the house's backyard. The designs have gotten more cartoony and simplistic, due to the fact that the crew switched from traditional animation to digital ink and paint. I don't think this is a bad thing because traditional animation was declining at this age, but now that the colors feel uglier (they very commonly used brown and green color schemes in this era), it could sometimes make me nauseous. The animation hasn't gotten primitive, but uglier as well.

Gee, the animation made me twist at times, but how about the characters?

Tartakovsky: Sadly, I felt like the characters are fairly annoying and generic, like Dexter and Dee Dee. I'm uncertain who to root for, like for example; Dexter is doing an expirement, but then Dee Dee comes out of no where and starts playing around in Dexter's lab. This drove Dexter mad, so he tried to get Dee Dee, only for him to get hurt in the process. This plot (which was used in Inflata-Dee Dee and Sister's Got a Brand New Bag) makes Dee Dee more obnoxious and treats Dexter like a Squidward. Plus, other characters feel pretty stupid like Mandark for example. But that's all I have about the Tartakovsky Dexter's characters. Some of them are ones I can used as a stress ball due to their annoyance and stupidity.

Savino: It's the same characters, except they're worse. Dexter feels like he's out of character in a bunch of episodes, while Dee Dee is the same thing but toned down (thank god) to be duller. Also, this era seems to show Mandark a lot compared to the other one. I don't know why they did this, but I think that the crew liked Mandark a lot. However, because that the bonding here felt better, along with some character development, I could say that Savino could possibly win this round.

Now that I've explained my summary about what's right and wrong, here are the summaries:

Tartakovsky: This era is something that I won't come back to, thanks to it being lukewarm, generic, and annoying at parts, but I can still relate this show to other experiences with some creativity and a few jokes to make me recommend it.

Savino: Chris Savino has infected the show with The Loud Houses writing but protrayed as an ancestor, mediocre animation that's ugly along with the blander cast. However, because that the episodes has better potential, along with something decent about the characters, you can still check it out.

So in all, Dexter's Laboratory is the first show I don't recommend since The Loud House with a meh rating (57%). If I had to rate each era, then Tartakovsky is fair (64%), while Savino is tolerable (47%). You can still watch both eras, but lookout for anything bad Savino Dexter have in stores. Starting this time, we'll barely get any good shows throughout this Spring, and oh god, I'm exhausted from watching all of the cartoons, but everyone knows that a struggling person can't give up.

A Third Dad Cartoon is pretty epic. You just got trolled epic libtard style (AKA you gave the episode the reaction it wanted.)

Funny how you say that because of what happen a few months back, it looks like he'll be no near the animation industry anymore.

Was the Savino era REALLY that bad? Okay, maybe they weren't that good, but they can still be entertaining at times.

You're right that it may charm me (like Dexter's Little Dilemma and Folly Calls), but I can't take it back since most of the episodes were cliched for my taste. Read the description for explanation.

I know why you don't like them. But you said this is all your opinion. I'll admit, I didn't like episodes such as Sore Eyes or Jeepers Creepers Where is Peepers or that episode Dexter's Library, but I'd rather watch them over Johnny Test.

I must ask, of all the series has given us why do you think Ego Trip is bad?
While I would agree its not the best the series can offer, it's a good fitting end to the series that at least tied it all off with good comedy, action and story. What do you think is wrong with it?

thank you! I understand your perspective of why it wouldn't be considered some of the better things DL has to offer.
