Description Like Apple and Onion, Unikitty! is one of the recent Cartoon Network shows everyone's talking about that I'd thought that it'd be a good idea to review this cartoon. Since I wanted the release date of this scorecard to be closer to its real release date (January 1, 2018; October 27, 2017 is only the sneak peek air date), I squeezed this show into the Season 2 lineup because you know, I was curious with the positive reviews critics have been awarding this show lately, and I'd thought "Is this show actually regarded good? Not like how social media treats Teen Titans Go!?", which is why I chose to catch plenty of recent cartoons to fill the spot between Sym-Bionic Titan and T.U.F.F. Puppy. There used to be 41 scorecards planned for Season 2, then 30, and, with the addition of Wishfart, Apple and Onion and this show, 31 scorecards are currently the amount for Season 2. And yes, I watched The Lego Movie (it still counts because this cartoon is a spin-off of that movie), but not when the sneak peeks were first aired on Cartoon Network.

Was it as good as people were positive on this show than I thought? Technically, nah. The pie chart indicates that the pie chart itself is similar to OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes. The best episode is good and even in its early days, it successfully gave birth to a bad episode and continue to crank out more than ten. Not to mention that the meh slice is also pretty big and much of the ones I recommend aren't really that good. The best episode of this cartoon as of the release of this scorecard, "First Flight", wasn't even that good. That is pretty much it to describe the pie chart. It looks lukewarm, there are multiple bad episodes, the best episode wasn't even that good, and so much meh in the pie chart.

I might have the same perspective on this show as OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes's aggregate, but trust me, this show is better than said show with the writing:

Essentially, it's all you expect from a cartoon based on one of the characters from The Lego Movie, which means that the premise here isn't anything special, but it still works for Unikitty herself; it deals with the royal responsibilities and optimistic adventures of Unikitty, which will doesn't show promise, still works alone because that Unikitty is often an energetic and optimistic fellow, it fits the title character well. And what do you know, Unikitty brought along the joy into the writing as well. The episodes are filled with energy where it makes it hard for you to get bored through an episode, as well as having a good amount of jokes that work. Style helps build the tone of the show, and energy is filled into the bottle that is tone a lot where all I can say is that the writing here is fun. The pacing is fast (not too fast where it makes it difficult to comprehend the situation) where the show itself helps you get interested in the episodes that you can feel some passion and happiness in you that it persuades you to watch more of Unikitty!. However, it can go out of hand where it can be really annoying at times where it can be irritating with its cool and hipness with so many airhorn noises. Are the plots any good? In the premise department, they're viewed as a breath of fresh air because most of them are quite interesting as well, or perhaps pretty original. When you watch the episode, the episodes continue to get interesting with the energy, convincing conflicts and cleverness that it helps to appreciate the show some more. As energetic as the show can get, the energy CAN get out of hand sometimes. A few of the episodes adapt cliches where the whole thing is plain predictable. However, Unikitty! attempts to do something new with the cliches like adding some cleverness into them where it feels fairly fresh again and heck, even one episode attempted to combine one cliche with another. The predictability is quite common in the show itself, but it's one of the few flaws this show has. Also, there are episodes that feel reminiscent of other episodes from other cartoons ("Spooooky Game" reminds me of The Powerpuff Girls (2016)'s "Phantasm Chasm") and remember when I said that the episodes are pretty original. Well, I think a few of them aren't anything new, but it doesn't matter because the energy and feeling put into this show helps make it distinct from other cartoons. Sometimes, this show can fail with its endings where they behave in a random and annoying light. Want to know what else is annoying? This show has some of its dumb moments, which includes many of the lowbrow jokes that can happen frequently in some episodes. And don't get me started on how many attempts this show tried with its annoying running gags. The strangeness in multiple episodes (especially in Season 2) is what makes the writing more sour as it's so weird and strange that I just find it confusing. Not even the jokes can help because like I said, it can be lowbrow often. Unikitty! continues its persistent energy where it's pretty interesting and a tad predictable, but the energy can be too much to handle at times.

Energy is all that helps a kids cartoon keep my interest. I will also talk about that in the other 2 aspects I haven't got to yet. Speaking of that, the animation is next:

Ummmm...I don't know what to say about the quality. No seriously, the pros and cons are 50/50 between one and another where it's hard to describe it. Okay, let's start with the positives. Once again, the energy help keeps us interested and all that, where the environment is really colorful and fast-paced like the writing. And no, it isn't choppy, it actually flows really well. The colorful environment supports the variety in the backgrounds where it consists of a huge amount of colors depending on each character. Turquoise and blue mostly dominate the colors, but the show still gives appreciation to other colors like pink, green and purple so that it feels like a cartoon aimed towards girls. The energetic and cute atmosphere of Unikitty! help keeps girls interested with the show as if it was meant more for them. And as for the background music, it's totally awesome while simultaneously, screams 2010s. It mostly consists of techno/rave music that helps contribute to the energy of the show. The typical 2010's Cartoon Network show utilizes 8-bit and suspenseful music that sound like remixes, while Unikitty! takes a different route where the music is more towards the female demographic that it again, help make it distinct from the other cartoons. Since 2010s music would often be filled with techno, bass boosts, and cool-sounding atmosphere, Unikitty! tries doing that with its production music. It still fits with the show well, but anyways, what also improved the animation style is the camera shake effect where it makes it look like as if the episodes were filmed. Once again, it's another cool addition to the quality that help makes it look new. And then we have the cons, which kinds of worries me because it has the same problems I have with the writing; the energy can get out of hand. The cuteness level is really high where it makes me feel a little uncomfortable. That goes for common amounts of glittering on the characters' eyes, Unikitty and Puppycorn making overly cute faces that look like they really want your attention so bad and some voice acting kind of made me flinch a little (especially with the one-timers), but it's not really a big deal because that's the point of the show; to be energetic and more for the girls. Where my complaints begin is that the characters look a bit unusual because I can't really tell what they look like. Hawkodile is supposed to be a crocodile combined with a hawk. I recognize the crocodile torso on Hawkodile, but not how the hawk part translates into legos. What's supposed to look like his beak doesn't look like one to me because it doesn't look like as if it were pointing. The cause for the ugliness of these characters is the lego part because I feel like this show's trying to be 2 things. It's not that it doesn't look like The LEGO Movie that bothers me, it's that the legos interfere with the show's world. Unikitty! is allowed to mess with its own world, I know, but the backgrounds aren't even designed to look like legos, yet the characters are. Once again, the characters can fall apart sometimes, but I feel like they're not doing much with the lego part of the animation. It's just that the lego part looks kind of out of place for this world not consisting of bricks connected together. Not only that, but I felt like the overall animation style look like The Powerpuff Girls reboot where the backgrounds have a lot of shades of blue and the objects surrounding the field are often flat. That also means gradients being used to give the backgrounds more depth and vibrancy in both shows. Another issue I have with the quality is regarding the sound effects, which only justifies the show's immaturity some more. You not only got some airhorn noises but also random fart noises that aren't even close to being funny or clever. Unikitty! might have a similar color palate to The Powerpuff Girls reboot, out of place LEGOs in a world of colorful shapes and irritating amount of cuteness that can get out of hand, but it fits the style of the show with colorful animation and techno music where I just don't know what to rate this section. It's pretty debatable.

If I don't know what to say about the animation style, then I definitely have something in mind regarding the characters:

Like the energy roaming around having fun in Unikitty!, the characters are likable that help gives Unikitty some depth and friends. I mean, there isn't much to describe them because they're not that original, but overall good characters. Some of them are funny, can decently develop and have a sense of heart in them. The title character has the most heart out of them all because she mostly cares about everyone in her kingdom, making sure that everyone is happy and nothing goes wrong. She also cares about Master Frown, the antagonist of Unikitty!, which is something that's quite original in the show. I haven't really heard of a protagonist caring about an antagonist, so I guess that could work because it could contribute to the development of one of these characters. Plus, I notice that she saves the day often, which kind of carries away some sense of variety in the characters, but doesn't affect them too much. However, one thing that affects them the most in this situation room is that they often act dumb. They act oblivious often where they don't see what's going to happen next ("Kaiju Kitty" is one example, because the gang except Richard isn't totally aware that they're harming the kingdom, which they should've been aware of that already) and heck, their actions could've been more straightforward than that. Sometimes, these characters don't develop well, but it doesn't matter often because we can relate to these characters and their characterization is enjoyable enough. Not much else to describe the characters except they're likable and have a good sense of humor and heart, but also express dumb implications.

I was skeptical about the appearance of the show, and still is to this day. The energy kind of scared me away a bit, but not much too damaging. The energy and refreshing plots help prevent this show from total boredom and similarities with Teen Titans Go!, but the energy can commonly get out of hand where it's pretty obnoxious and immature at times, relies on predictability and incorporating Teen Titans Go!’s flaws, but it’s still a harmless cartoon. It's not one of those cartoons to take seriously, it rather wants to have a fun time. This is one of those shows where you turn off your brain and you can enjoy every last aspect of the show. Yes, it's a little annoying with its energy, but doesn't go too overboard with it. Turns out its energy is a little too much where it's in all too meh (50%) for my pleasure. I can flinch at how energetic and crazy a show is, but I still had a good time watching this show nevertheless. While the meh slice is pretty big, this show is just harmless. It's there to boost your energy in yourself whenever you feel down. Trust me, it isn't extremely crazy and wacky.

Also can you explain why Crushing Defeat, Kickflip McPuppycorn and Super Amazing Raft Adventure are bad?

I like Crushing Defeat and SARA, and am neutral to KickflipMcPuppycorn, but I think I know why he doesn’t like them.

Crushing Defeat: He doesn’t like romance episodes most of the time.
SARA: Hawkodile torture.
KickflipMcPuppycorn: Mean spirited to UK, PC, Dr. Fox, and Hawkodile.

It's cute and a little enjoyable for me when I watch it. But when it's over, I don't find any reason to watch it again, other then a few moments here and there. It's mostly forgettable. I can see it having a cult following, but most others will not even care for it. But's it's not horrible. I'll give it that.
