Description This could be concidered crafts since it is a fuctional chalce but I have placed it under sculpture because it can not be reproduced using traditional mass production ceramic techniques, it is a one of a kind hand made piece with a sculpted figurative element with too many undercuts for moldmaking techniques used for water based clay.
Dryad's are a form of tree spirit that are represented in many ways in many cultures, this is the version I have created.

This piece was sold on the internet some months ago by Deviant MsJ777 whom I owe many thanks, she still has a few of my small works for sale at this link -------- [link] --- TAKE A PEEK

Thanks you all for taking the time to look and comments are welcome

Intro-Extro In reply to HijackedByFaeries [2005-03-04 05:39:39 +0000 UTC]

Once I had the figure mostly finished and the thrown bowl for the chalice part carved out then yes the rest was done upside down, mostly the transition of the hair to weaving and hands.

Sculpting/modelling is an art that's always evaded me. Back when I tried I think I managed to make something that looked remotely like a cake somebody had stepped in. Thus, you have my utmost respect for creating something this spectacular. If it was for sale in shops, I would probably buy it because that's my kind of bag. Sexy work indeed.

Holy crap...you have such amazing talent, this is gorgous...I would love to have a pair of chalices like this for my wedding (which is still a long ways away, but still lol)...absolutly stunning, I love it. I must go peek at your other works!

sensational. i know myself from experience that knot-work and intertwined branches/hair and stuff can be almost nightmarish to deal with. i imagine it's only more difficult doing it in 3d form.

her long bony fingers are just beautiful too. and the earthy tones really bring it to life.

beautiful work. think i'll fav it.

Thanks, actually I usally had a harder time drawing weavings and braids than sculpting them, not that both don't take time and effort.

Thanks I try to make a small piece once in while to be sellable on line but the large works usally take much of my time. Deviant MsJ777 sells my small pieces on line through her gallery and she is the one responsible for getting me the daily deviation,Thanks again for the comment.

ceramics do not have to be mass produced and if it is functional it is definitely a craft and not a sculpture.
