The following is headcanon, you should ignore it:
I see the whole ordeal as having been all kinds of super creepy sweet, very La belle et la bête - if anyone's ever even seen that. It's a 1946 French film version of Beauty and the Beast that is creepertastic.
Darkleer remains as controllingly creepy and overprotective as his descendant, and keeps Aradiancestor (I've been calling her Evocator Ebonveil) locked in his castle compound to protect her. It doesn't really go over well at first.
He's scarred to hell and back from defending her. I like to imagine she's the one to patch him up whenever he drags himself back. While he's away, or holed up in his workshop, she goes exploring the inner caves of his hive, looking for fossils.
The prosthetic legs are the result of the one time she did disobey him. Highbloods messed her up nicely, so Darkleer flips his shit and earns his title as Expatriate. He makes her a new set of legs because he can't stand the thought of her not being able to walk/wander/dance like she used to.
I can't decide if it's true love or Stockholm Syndrome. But considering Equius, it's probably both.

I agree. It's the thing I like the least about this picture, and I really wish I'd spent just a little more time to fix it. Both her arms are kind of short, and her hands... yeah, they are like plastic Barbie hands. XD

I am appreciating this so hard right now I wish I could properly express this. I don't understand blindly shipping Equius-Aradia (or the ancestor version) because -like you said- Equius is creepy and obsessive and controlling and there is no way in hell he'll probably ever have a normal relationship. But I really like the quasi-story you wrote to accompany this because I think that's how it went down. (I like how you threw wandering and dancing in there because - yes, that is also what I imagine Aradiancestor doing 
Your last line basically sums up all my sentiments towards this pairing.

I like the scars (raised scars are so hard to draw! - but yours look siiiick) and the hair - how you got Darkleer's hair to look smooth and fine while Aradiancestor's hair is curly and all ram-like. I like how you've expressed so much detail on a limited palette. Annnnd I like how you fit robot-Aradia into the ancestor timeline.

Ohwow thank you! It really is the twisted sort of sweet tragedy that draws me to Darkleer/Aradiancestor. Also because I am of the opinion that every romance involving Equius or Darkleer, even one that's reciprocal (actually, especially so), should be creepy and terrible. I hope the comic shows us Aradiancestor, I'd really like to know who she actually is! (And then maybe I can stop over-thinking everything.)
I was specifically thinking of Tavros' legs when I gave her the prosthetics, since I thought at least one of the ancestors would have had an unfortunate accident, and obviously to double as an Aradiabot reference, too. Also yes, scars are hard! They took forever.

Uh yeah, I'd bet. The scar tissue is really gruesome, honestly- I suppose that good though because it's believable! I want to look away...but I can't....better approach than the "bishonen" darkleers by far.
I hope we hear more about these ancestors in the updates to come. It's crazy how eager and fast this fandom is to fill the gaps with their theories. o_o

Oh good, I'm glad it's believable. Throughout the process, I was really worried I would overwork something and it would look off. There are still a few things I would work on, but for the most part, I'm still really proud of what I did.
I was so ridiculously thrilled to see a character with muscles in the comic, I had to draw him immediately. Muscles are so much fun. I don't mind the uh, 'bishounen' Darkleers too much, but he will always be big and burly and awkward to me.
In the fandom's defense, the comic's format encourages speculation and a certain level of interaction. It even expects it. But I won't deny overeager jumpings, seeing as how I kind of filled in some blanks and drew this.

Not only is the art ridiculously beautiful, but the emotions in it are so stunning and touching. The picture really radiates.
I usually ignore a lot of the art submitted to Homestuck-Fans, but this one caught my eye.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who aspires to one day make art as gorgeous as this.

This is very touching, and I do think the prosthetic legs add that extra layer to this.
I can also pick up traces of that film in this picture with just the look of the two. Darkleer does look rather beastly, and Aradiancestor does look like poor, fair maiden.

Thank you for saying so. And it's nice to know someone else has seen that film! I saw it a few years ago and it's been in the back of my mind ever since. The moment they introduced Darkleer, I thought of the Beast standing over Belle asking "Will you be my wife?" in that gravely, sad, disturbing tone, with that intense look on his face.
I wanted to draw it back then, but I was never good enough. Now I think I managed to do it justice, even if it's only a light homage.

This is the best Aradia/Equius [Ancestor] art I've ever actually seen. It feels really, really sad, and sweet at the same time. And I actually wish it could work out well for those two.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely ADORE this picture, I also saw it on tumblr earlier. I'm so in love with this pairing right now, it's almost a little creepy. I love seeing peoples interpretations/guesses at Aradiacestor and this one is particularly lovely. I especially like your head canon/back story, even if it is creepy. But that's why I like this pairing and AraEqu, and because it manages to be sweet at the same time.
Oh man, I love how you drew Darkleer, especially those scars. He looks even more irresistible and in need of comfort than when we first saw him in the comic. I also love Ebonveil, especially her hair. Everything about this is splendid <3

And his crushing knowledge that he can never really touch her. I kind of love the idea of him taking her into a seriously twisted custodial relationship in lieu of a traditional matespritship.

Thanks! I used Photoshop CS3, but you could use pretty much any version. I used a default brush with a funny name, something like "Airbrush Pen Opacity Flow," which sets opacity to pen pressure and makes soft lines. Lots of fun to play with!
