Description Finally, here's my entry for *Larissa-Bright 's fanart contest!

Here are the four main characters from her novel: Hugh, Freya, Jonathan and Rosalind.

I know that Gina is an appreciator of all things Victorian, and she's a great traditional artist. So I've decided to do something a)traditional and b)Victorian era. The "photo" was done on cream paper using nothing but my sepia Faber-Castell brush pens (and that's my first traditional art piece in, like, a year!), then I just added effects, brushes etc. in PS ^^

I always saw Hugh as a kind of Mr. Wickham character, that's why he's wearing military uniform. Freya's looking happy as she's basking in Hugh's attention, while Jono looks plain miserable (obviously enough as Hugh stole his girlfriend). Ros (here clutching a bear that could be Clover's granddad!) looks unhappy as next to beautiful Freya she feels childlike and inferior.

I know - the more entries there are, the harder it is to decide, I thought I had my 3 faves but now I have 5!

I'm just recently learning how awesome/useful brushes can be. I just have trouble finding any that aren't just compatible with Photoshop!

O_o Irina, do you have a psychic ability to read my mind? Because although I don't think I ever said this to anyone, I entertain a version of Squeebunny in my mind that is like a Victorian melodrama (actually wrote a bit of it too, like a play - the Internet plot device was switched with letters). And it would have looked like this!
The idea is just great - really inventive, and really different. I love all the Victorian decoration and the writing and photography booklet at the bottom. The idea of photography is great of course considering that photography features quite a bit in the actual story. I really like how they look as though they've been posed by the photographer and the Victorian thing is so perfect as this looks loads like old photos I've seen. Of the characters, I think my fave is Ros here, because she looks so lonely and cute (and grandfather of Clover looks as though he's suffering from camera shock.) The costumes are just ace in general, especially the girls' ones, as are the relationships shown between the characters. Though I'm now having horrible thoughts about what Hugh would do if he was enlisted in the army (I bet he did it for the uniform. And the pay packet. And the glamour. And the ladies. And possibly teh lulz, provided there wasn't any real danger...).
Anyway, it's amazing and inventive and I love it. Thanks for entering!

No you definitely haven't mentioned it anywhere, so it MUST be mind-rearing ^^ It's not the first time art imitates life in my case ^^
You know, with this piece, I started it last night and just couldn't stop! I'm sooo badly out of practice with trad art - embarrassingly, after inking this my hand hurt ^^' I really enjoyed it tho - needless to say the original looks so much better IRL *spits at scanner*
I could totally imagine Hugh as an army officer stationed in a middle of nowhere to protect local frontiers (i.e. provide protection for paranoid residents). Actually reminds me of all those Russian 19 century classics I read at school - they were all in the army and seemed to do nothing but go to balls and stuff ^^

It's great when you start pieces you just can't stop - only seems to happen to me with traditional art, perhaps cos you're not stuck in front of the comp. *also spits at scanner*
I think Hugh could cope with being a military officer stuck in the middle of nowhere just going to balls^^ He could manage that, seeing as the hard work is left out!
