Description (repostin something I made a while back while I wait for photoshop in other computer to work so I can finish commishes b4 weekend.)

'I drew this in mind when I read an article some weeks back (which I want to find again, but I cannot find it???) I read about one woman who took her youngest daughter to see "Princess and the Frog" . Seeing her little girl make OMG!ENCHANTED!FACE and thinking the new generation gets to have Tiana while her generation did not.
This thought made her bawww in the theater.

I also bawwww while thinking of this.

It's sad but happy at the same time.
It's kind of like when I first saw "Mulan" the first time as a little girl. I was personally moved.

...

Because all the "issues" and some flaws of this film aside, I felt the movie and Tiana were made with sincerity and love, not just something to be marketed, which is important when bringing to life a story you want to move people with.

Princess and the Frog and Tiana (c) Disney
Fanart by me (because I love this movie FFFF)

EDIT: Guys, you are seriously going to make me BAWWW (aside from all the wapanese trolling on the front comments lol) even more with all these lovely stories you're telling me about your Disney memories. If only Disney knew how much good stuff like this is what lasts with their audience ;___;

The first disney princesses that impressed me were Pocahontas and Mulan.

Pocahontas was the first one I remember because I was already 5 years old when watching the movie, and she was a beautiful woman and... just fascinating, she was not like my sisters and not like my mother and not even white and I could not stop looking in awe at her beauty.

And Mulan, I was like 8 or 9 years old, I immediately loved her. She was the kind of girl I liked. Nothing like my classmates or he other girls in the village. She was simply cool. I mean, just the scene of her turning into a soldier, and that awesome music, I just thought wow! I love this music. Oh yeah, and Mushu was awesome, too, because in german, my favourite comedian Otto Waalkes, of whom I knew each and every joke by heart, voiced him. And his lines were hilarious.

So yeah, a typical 90's kid biography, you could say. Perhaps these movies are the reason why I like black haired women more then blondes (although, thinking about Grace Kelly .... )

My favourite Disney girl is and always will be Ariel. I've always felt she "spoke" to me the most. When I was a kid as well as now that I'm an adult. I was an "odd" child, and so watching a movie about a mermaid who felt she didn't belong in the sea really meant something to me. Now as an adult where I'm an animator but I live in a country where there isn't an animation industry to really speak of it still means something to me, to be able to break away to a different world where things are different and where they have all the things I've always been interested in and want to part of my life.

The little girl's face in the last panel melts my heart like you have no idea.

What I love about Princess Tiana is that she was a hard worker. She didn't sit there and sing about how terrible her life is. (No offence to Disney super-fans, I love all Disney films, just an observation...)

I totally agree with you. I love disney movies, specially involeng the princesses. Every single one has contribute to who I'm today, my personality and my ideals. The princess and the frog got of me my very deep admiration from my mother and women and feneral, looking the courage the overcome the obstacles in life. And is the first black princess, that gave me great joy and pride. I almost looked like that little girl when I saw the movie at home!! X3

The movie meant a lot to me when I first saw it as well. I was crying in the theater by the end! The movie shouldn't be talked about because it stars a black princess and doesn't have a black prince or because it has stereotypes in it. It's just a nice story for kids to enjoy.

I really really love your artwork and how it perfectly conveys the feelings of both the mother and daughter. Great job!

I never understood why grown-ups want to be so technical over such beautiful movies --- seriously, THESE MOVIES ARE MADE FOR KIDS. You don't see kids going: "WHYISEVERYONEINCINDERELLAWHITETHISMOVIEISRACIST"
Movies like these are made to revolve around true love and aiming for your dreams - NOT to make people feel bad about themselves.

Beautiful and emotional picture. I grew up loving Disney, then hating Disney as a black teenaged girl, and then reconciling with the idea of Disney princesses as an adult. Although I at first thought this was a pure marketing scam, it's really nice to have strong heroines, and even better when you can see positive characters that look (Ethnically at least--I wish I looked that good!Lol) up on the screen. Wonderful image and wonderful story you shared. Thank you!

I this a lot. When I heard about this movie in '08, I became so excited for it. Tiana is my favorite princess because I identify with her a lot. What I most like about her is that she has self-determination and integrity, and doesn't lose what's most important in her life.

Many blessings to you!

I just read that and looked at the picture and I was starting to feel a little of that pre-tears burning behind my eyes. I have to admit, I've been waiting for this movie since I heard that they were even thinking about making a movie with a black disney princess. When I was little, I wasn't happy with myself the way I was because all the princesses in movies were lighter than me. For halloween, I was Belle in elementary school and Esmeralda in Middle school. Then I just gave it up and was a cat for several years in a row...

This picture is great. ^_^ I love it. You can really see the emotion on their faces. It's heartwarming.

I always loved Mulan, probably because I always got made at the other disney princess 'One dance and it's true love? what?" yeah, that was five year old me. and I liked the Princess and the Frog, too...I thought Tiana was a good character (Personality, ect. she worked for her happily ever after.)

I don't mind the political "nonsense". I can understand why people would be upset, but at least Disney tried to address it, and their care in addressing it also reflected their care with handling everything else in this movie.

Unlike "The Last Airbender" movie.
