Description
(repostin something I made a while back while I wait for photoshop in other computer to work so I can finish commishes b4 weekend.)'I drew this in mind when I read an article some weeks back (which I want to find again, but I cannot find it???) I read about one woman who took her youngest daughter to see "Princess and the Frog" . Seeing her little girl make OMG!ENCHANTED!FACE and thinking the new generation gets to have Tiana while her generation did not.
This thought made her bawww in the theater.
I also bawwww while thinking of this.
It's sad but happy at the same time.
It's kind of like when I first saw "Mulan" the first time as a little girl. I was personally moved.
...
Because all the "issues" and some flaws of this film aside, I felt the movie and Tiana were made with sincerity and love, not just something to be marketed, which is important when bringing to life a story you want to move people with.
Princess and the Frog and Tiana (c) Disney
Fanart by me (because I love this movie FFFF)
EDIT: Guys, you are seriously going to make me BAWWW (aside from all the wapanese trolling on the front comments lol) even more with all these lovely stories you're telling me about your Disney memories.

It was a wonderfully fun movie and I love how you drew that little girls awe. x3 I kind of felt like that while I was watching it, it was just fun to get lost in a new Disney film.
My favorite Disney "Princess" film has to be Mulan. That one sucks me in every time. ♥ But the one that will always hold the number one spot in my heart would have to be Anastasia. Even if that isn't Disney.

This picture put the absolute sappiest smile on my face! I loved me some Disney when I was little, and haven't quite grown out of it. Mulan rocked my socks off. Sure, the other movies were cool, but I was the four-eyed little feminist that wanted to see the girl help save the day. Mulan delivered, and then there was Hercules and I would have been in love with Meg even if she wasn't neatly put into a happier version of Greek mythology. She's an alto!
So, this made me remember all of my favorite Disney memories, and I was super-excited to see The Princess and the Frog come out because I was working at a summer camp when the previews went mainstream. I wanted every last little girl to have the chance to be a princess or a warrior or whatever the heck she felt like being that day.
I actually haven't seen the latest movie yet, but my movie-junkie roommate adored it and will be buying the DVD. We're 22 and proud to watch Disney whenever we feel like it.

When i saw the previews for Princess and the Frog i totally just DIED from fangirl-ing ( and i don't fangirl too much). It is seriously about time they had a black disney princess.

Oh this picture captures that feeling perfectly and I can't believe how much this it reminds me of my mom and me-- glasses, pigtails, and all! The movie probably would have been Beauty and the Beast. I loved Belle and her bookish ways.
But what's funny is that, while not a princess, Disney already gave me a character I could identify with and love in Elisa Maza from Gargoyles. Black/Native American badass cop surrounded by sci-fi and the supernatural? Seven-year-old me had found herself a hero.

This is beautiful. It's wonderful to see that glowing look on a child's face, and what their eyes glitter as their new-found role model sings or dances their way through the movie. But even for adults the magic can still happen. Dreams do come true. My first kiss was basically the script to Cinderella. It really was magical.
My dad died when I was eight, and I felt the same way Simba did as he lay next to his dead father. That indescribable horror that comes with knowing that there's nothing you can do when the person your world revolves around dies suddenly. I still cry every time I watch that seen. I know Disney isn't all profit and marketing because you can't guess what emotions someone would feel in this situation; it can only be felt, and someone in the writing process put something personal in there.

Sooooooo sweet!
I'm so glad about the Lasseter thing too.
I miss having disney princesses so much!
Tiana is on the level of Mulan and Jasmine to me!
Plus, some of the jokes you really have to live in Louisiana to get. (I do)
When Ray says "Y'all from SHREVEPORT!??"
The entire theater laughed for a solid 5 minutes.
And the accents are spot on!
Ray sounds like my Poppy!
I am soooo proud of this movie!

I feel like I'm totally late telling this story, but here it goes.
I'm not much for love and romance of any type. And I'm not one to cry either. But every time they have the funeral for Ray and the clouds part, and there is the new star next to Evangeline which is supposed to be Ray, I absolutely BAWL. Not only that, but, as always, Disney reminded me that love can find you when you least expect it.

I loved this picture, and favorited it a while ago, but I've just remembered and thought pack to it. I just got back from Disney world, and there were so many little girls waiting and backed up to have their picture with Tiana and Naveen (They were beautiful!).A lot of them were even dressed up. It was so adorable. <3
There was even this little, obviously adopted, African American child with her white parents and grandparents there fawning over her, dressed up like Tiana and they were all so excited.

I'm so glad that they came out with this movie when I wouldn't just take it for granted. Also as an African American, I get to live through Tiana and hope that someday I too get an annoyingly hot guy with a heart of gold.
Also, I'm glad that this was made after Disney realized that we wanted princes with more personality than just swinging in and stabbing something. I guess Prince Philip and Sleeping Beauty has to be bumped down to number two. ^__^;;

Oh my God...;__; This. Just THIS. I miss being that age and feeling more enchanted than jaded.
(Since apparently people are sharing Disney stories...when I was a little girl, I genuinely believed the Disney characters all lived, for real, in some magic place I wasn't allowed to go to. Because I was "normal," not magic, not special. But I didn't care, I was still happy, because I thought they let us watch them on purpose, so we could still "visit."
*so says the girl who wore out THREE VHS copies of The Little mermaid, could/can recite the love confession from beauty and the Beast by heart, and used to sit on a bathtowel and sing "A Whole New World."*

I know that feeling! I remember being in love with Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty because they looked like me, it made me feel not alone. It's so very important to have someone on that screen that is like you and it's also important for people to see that part of you as beautiful.
Yeah boy do I know that feeling.

This picture almost made me cry. My friend showed me this picture after I "reviewed" the movie in my journal and...well...she definitely has great taste in art, lol.
I finally got around to watching that movie. At first, I was so skeptical of it because how heavily they emphasized her race in the advertisement. It felt like they were just using her being Black as a marketing ploy to just bring in audiences. And then the story and the voices made me really raise an eyebrow.
But I told myself that I wouldn't judge this until I saw it for myself. And BOY AM I GLAD! You see the way you drew that little girl? That was totally me. And I'm 21 years old.
I really wish I had a beautiful cartoon Black woman to play as when I was little. People really don't understand how discouraging it can be when all your favorite cartoon characters are of lighter skin than you, especially while its constantly being implied by your environment that lighter skin is better skin. To this day I have problems drawing cartooned Black women because they simply don't exist. It wasn't until I started life drawing that I started being able to draw Black women.
Well...sorry for the long response...I was just seriously moved by that movie and this picture. You summed up my feelings about the movie in this picture EXACTLY.

This picture reminds me of when I was a little kid and loved Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She was my favorite because she was beautiful but also intelligent; she loved reading just like me. I felt like I could really connect with her, and when I look at this picture I see the same emotions in the face of that little girl. If only Disney would make more movies like this, instead of their other crap.

Disney is truly magical. I grew up watching Disney movies and falling in love with it deeply. I miss seeing disney making beautiful animated movies like this, not those High school musical, camp rock stuff...
I remember always looking up to Belle from Beauty and the beast. Because not only was she pretty, she was smart and kind hearted. Disney finds ways to let girls look up to the princesses and with the Princess and the frog, there is one more princess many little girls can look up to. I thank Disney for filling my childhood with whimsical happiness!~
