Description (repostin something I made a while back while I wait for photoshop in other computer to work so I can finish commishes b4 weekend.)

'I drew this in mind when I read an article some weeks back (which I want to find again, but I cannot find it???) I read about one woman who took her youngest daughter to see "Princess and the Frog" . Seeing her little girl make OMG!ENCHANTED!FACE and thinking the new generation gets to have Tiana while her generation did not.
This thought made her bawww in the theater.

I also bawwww while thinking of this.

It's sad but happy at the same time.
It's kind of like when I first saw "Mulan" the first time as a little girl. I was personally moved.

...

Because all the "issues" and some flaws of this film aside, I felt the movie and Tiana were made with sincerity and love, not just something to be marketed, which is important when bringing to life a story you want to move people with.

Princess and the Frog and Tiana (c) Disney
Fanart by me (because I love this movie FFFF)

EDIT: Guys, you are seriously going to make me BAWWW (aside from all the wapanese trolling on the front comments lol) even more with all these lovely stories you're telling me about your Disney memories. If only Disney knew how much good stuff like this is what lasts with their audience ;___;

Hmm, most likely not... Disney's all about promoting positive rolemodels for small children. And though they set unrealistic standards of , I don't think B.Ditto would be considered a healthly standard. Obesity's already a dangerous problem. ):

Ah, but disney is so full of twiggy chickies, that THAT is screwing over children. that, and Tyra Banks. Ditto loves her body and even though she is fat, she projects a positive image by loving her body

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

patchworktrickster In reply to DuckyQueen [2010-02-28 01:30:55 +0000 UTC]

Tyra Banks?

But by being overweight and 'loving' her body, she promotes that to be good and people will emulate her, and it's NOT good. Being overweight is the cause of many health problems.

I just have issues with models...

I'm just saying that having a plus sized woman who actually loves herself and accepts herself instead of starving herself or constantly dieting or undergoing plastic surgery to make herself fit to our society's norms is not a positive role model. I am fully aware that obesity is a health problem in america, but young women need a role model who helps them feel comfortable in their own skin no matter their shape or size. It has a taken me FOREVER to finally come to terms with the fact that i have a belly. No matter how many sit ups i do, I will never have the perfect, smooth stomach like the famous movie stars (ect). I feel comfortable in my skin because of women like Ditto

I wanted to see this movie, but looks like I'll just have to wait for the DVD. I'm really happy that Disney made another traditional 2-D film. I like the CGI, but there's nothing like having the old Disney back.

Your picture is very beautiful. You can really feel the emotion behind it. I love it.

I loved 'The Princess and the Frog'! I thought that Disney did a really good job and I loved how they didn't turn it into another "super-gushy" princess romance. They stuck to reality, and didn't make the movie seem like something that would come straight out of a child's storybook. They added a lot of humor to this movie and were extremely creative when it came to the characters (it's not every day you see a talking firefly, right?).

I loved how they made Tiana... 'unique' compared to the other princesses (and I’m NOT talking about how she's black!). Unlike the other princesses, Tiana doesn't wait for her prince or fairy godmother to come around and fix all her problems. She goes right out there (?) and does things herself. She's strong and independent, and works hard for what she believes in. She doesn't let anybody get in her way from achieving her dreams, and takes any obstacle head-on!

I also loved how they separated Naveen from the other princes (again, I am NOT referring to skin color!). Most of the princes - if not, ALL - have little roles in the princess movies. You only see Cinderella and Snow White's princes once or twice, and Prince Eric and Philip only played the parts of 'the Hero'. Naveen is a complete playboy, oblivious to the outside world's cruelness and hard work. He was a bit stuck-up at first, but as the movie progressed, he became an extremely lovable character.

I definitely had a huge bawww moment when I saw the movie in the theater, I've missed classic 2D so stinking much, and having such a strong revival. *le sigh*
Thank heaven for John Lassiter. Now to see if further improvements will be made to make Disney itself again, and not the marketing monster it's become...

And, Belle was definitely my first big-screen Disney princess heroine...
Which makes me super-super happy that they're doing a theatrical re-release of Beauty and the Beast on the 12th.

I agree; your comment made me realize that while I was watching the movie, the fact that she's the first black Disney princess didn't even cross my mind for more than the first minute or two during the movie, or when it was brought up. Disney is magic that way.

They more than make up for the few flaws this movie had.

Your artistic style is wonderful! The colors and expressions in this painting... they just seem to move with a life all their own.

Dude, I went to see Mulan twice in theaters when it came out I loved it so much. I've always loved movies with songs in them even if they are corny and I adored 'I'll make a man out of you" in that movie XD XD XD. Plus the overall stories and characters in that film were just so wonderful.

For me the movie memorable disney movieI ever saw would definetely be The Lion King. Hands down. I think I was like 7 at the time that movie came out and I can still remember the very first time I ever saw a preview for it (On the Aladdin VHS actually lol). I just sat there in such awe... I remember running to mama going "WOW!!! MAMA! HEY MAMA!! I WANNA SEE THIS!" lol

And when it finally came into theaters... oh Lord my child heart was so moved. Im 23 today and I've probably seen that movie 30-40 times. I know every single word. And whenever I watch the scene where Mufasa dies and Simba is crying out for somebody to help him... oh God I weep like a baby single every time.

Someone above said that this movie wasn't about breaking racial barriers for them, and I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. I wanted to see this movie for the story- not the fact that Tiana was a black princess. I was in love with her character-- her ability to stay positive and strong in the face of adversity and her determination to always reach for her dreams. That's the aspect of the film I think people need to look at. The values she had, and not just focus so much on her color (Though I am glad that Disney has finally started to branch out-- I hate that they focus so much on the white princesses of old in all their merchandise like cinderella, belle and sleeping beauty)

Astounding job! The little girl is absolutely adorable!!

First: to everyone who has said "I hope they continue with 2D" or "It's most likely the only one," listen up. I went to the Disney Dreams Come True art exhibit in New Orleans. It covered the revolutionary 2D animations for their time, like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid, just to name a few. Because it was in NOLA, they of course covered art work from The Princess and the Frog. BUT at the end of the exhibit, they had a sign that said "And the Legacy Continues..." Below it was a painting of a blonde girl in a tower, with "Rapunzel" written on the side.

In other words: 2D IS HERE TO STAY!!!!!

Ahem... back to this deviation... I have to say, I'm not black, but I was cheering for all little black girls who FINALLY have a Princess to look up to! And as far as me relating to Tiana, it was easy. She's smart, hardworking, and dependable. Most importantly, she's determined. A trait I highly admire and one I strive to embody. She is now my favorite Disney Princess.

And by far the BEST DISNEY PRINCESS DRESS in a VERY LONG TIME!!! Me want the green ballroom dress, and I don't even LIKE ballroom dresses!!!

I totally got tears in my eyes when I viewed this. Why is this NOT a DD????

Isaia In reply to anigym6 [2010-02-01 17:09:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!

Some people assume that because Tiana spent more time as a frog than a human, that made the film lame/racist/etc etc. But storywise, it made her more able for me to see her personality as a character rather than superficial appearance changes. In either form, she was adorable and beautiful!

Also: I hope they do continue with 2D, because Princess and the Frog had some less than Awesome box office records compared to Avatar and that dumb chipmunks movie. Also Rapunzel will be in 3D animation, not 2D. lol. But I've heard that Disney is making another 2D film called "The Snow Queen", I hope they follow through with it.

My "Baaaaaw/Tiana" moment was probably with Belle.

It helped that she was both a major bookworm and a total feminist. Being practically the only girl who atually liked to read books in my class and a staunch feminist (even before I knew what the word meant. ), Belle was one of the best role models I could have ever had. She was smart, witty, independent, loving, kind, and certainly wasn't going to take any schlock from someone like Gaston.

My favorite scenes were always the ones where she would stand her ground and fight, whether it was Gaston or Beast...

Ariel and Jasmine were influential in their own rights. Both were strong women. However, I most definitely conncted the most with Belle. From a young age I always used books as a means for my escape from the humdrum of life. Belle and I have a lot in common.

My apologies. I did not mean to ramble like that. However, when one becomes nostalgic, it's very hard not to rant on. After reading all the comments, I had to post one myself.

I don't expect anyone to read this, but it feels nice to share.

Here's to Disney creating more beautiful masterpieces and spreading their magic for years to come! *champagne glasses clink together*

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

redreh In reply to iluvmanga [2010-02-03 04:43:36 +0000 UTC]

Belle stuck out for me too. And I think the reason she does more so than Ariel or Jasmine is that she defined herself. Ariel, while yes, singing about longing to be a part of something different is, at the end of the film, really defined by Eric and her obsessive love for him. (This doesn't mean that she's not a strong woman or less independent, but that's the impression you're really left with.)

And Jasmine, for me, was always more defined by her sexuality. She was a kept princess who wanted love and freedom, but I dunno... there was something very kinky about her, for lack of a better word. She's the older woman's Belle, perhaps?

ANYWAYS..

Tiana is amazing. Absolutely amazing. I wish I had had her as a kid. She's beautiful, powerful, sensible--kickass all around. Regardless of what form she kept during the film, her character stayed strong and true, and that's what's gonna stand out for these girls.
