Description
This started as a fun challenge to myself, a theme to play around with. I wanted to create some sprites for schools I hadn't had much experience with. I also wanted a theme, and settled on each of these characters carries a jade weapon, and each weapon's name is tied to a tenet of the code of Bushido (or a trait associated with Bushido - I wanted a character from each Great Clan). It was nice to set myself a series of restrictions and see what came of it. As I was working on these the concept of the "Thunders" came to mind. In the setting for the Legend of the Five Rings there have been a series of heroes, usually gathered by the mystic monk Shinsei, one from each Great Clan, who would fight a great evil. As I was working these out I got to thinking, what would the Thunders look like in my take on the Togashi Dynasty?

The monk Yamazato, she bears the jade bisento, Filial Piety

The Imperial, Mirumoto Hisen, a Taoist Swordsman, he bears the jade jian, Honor

The Bear, Kuma Svetlana, a Kuma Barbarian, she bears the jade greatsword, Respect

The Crab, Kaiu Soseki, a Kaiu Engineer, he bears the jade cannon, Integrity

The Crane, Doji Utahime, a Kakita Artisan, she bears the jade shamisen, Compassion

The Lion, Ikoma Sanya, an Ikoma Tactician, he bears the jade katana and fan set, Duty and Loyalty

The Mantis, Tsuruchi Iso, a Tsuruchi Bounty Hunter, she bears the jade yumi and quiver set, Righteousness

The Owl, Hantei Seiya, a Hantei Bushi, he bears the jade yari, Fraternity

The Phoenix, Isawa Sekkei, an Asako Inquisitor, he bears the jade dagger-axe, Self-Control

The Scorpion, Bayushi Sanrin, a Bayushi Saboteur, she bears the jade bomb satchel, Courage

The Unicorn, Moto Hara, a Moto Priest of Death, she bears the jade shakujo, Wisdom
