Sometimes character design is hard, especially when you're starting out. I figured as Staff I'd help out and throw my animation knowledge at you guys.
Character creation can be finicky because sometimes colors can rapidly be seen as something else on another's computer or TV. Artists in television are restricted sometimes due to this and thats why you see very basic colors versus elaborate.

That's not to say we don't love the elaborate! But it's always best to remember why characters like "Mike Wasowski", "Sully", "Mufasa", and others work so well. They stick to 2-5 colors, and are usually pretty simple.
For an example! Look at "Thor Odinson" from Marvel Comics, versus the MCU's version. See the difference when it comes to hand drawn? There's always a reason!
