Description
Get ready for some passive unhappy marriage~Stormbreaker, a pro athlete and a lady's man, had a child from a previous relationship that tended to get in his way more ways than one. He was only interested in being around for Wind Sprint to keep up appearances, especially when it meant his daughter believed she was the "fun" parent who only spoiled her with no actual care to her well-being. He always made excuses for his absences and was sure to shower her with attention whenever he came around to visit her, but the longer he was separated from Clear Sky, the less he saw Wind Sprint. And he was okay with that. After all, he traveled a lot for work, especially when he had training or events like the Equestria Games.
Helia wasn't a pro athlete like Stormbreaker. She wasn't as well-known, but she loved to compete, which was a trait she attributed to her childhood friend Thunderlane, who always encouraged her to follow her athletic interests. Helia loved doing speed and sprint exercises as opposed to endurance, simply because she found it impossible to keep up such a pace for a longer period of time. The first time Helia and Stormbreaker met, they were on opposing teams at the Equestria Games, with Helia being second string for the Ponyville team. Like most competing athletes, they had a fun energy with each other, which teetered on the line of playful and flirtatious. She started to crush on Stormbreaker, mostly because of his talent and charm. The stallion wasn't particularly kind or compassionate toward others, but he seemed irresistible to her. Stormbreaker clearly had no issue in encouraging her feelings for him, if only because he loved being the center of a mare's attention.
Most of their relationship was competing against each other in a rather playful way, even though they both took it seriously. Stormbreaker wouldn't let her win just to make her feel good about herself, especially if it meant he could show off. His motivation for their dating was that he liked being with Helia. He wasn't sure if it was a long-term thing, especially with their occasional "on and off" relationship, but ended up deciding that she would make a "good enough" wife and mom, especially after a surprise meeting where his daughter showed up with his ex-girlfriend and her new husband. Stormbreaker hadn't told Helia that he had a child from a previous relationship, and after a small break between the two, Helia came back and said none of that mattered. So he proposed, and Helia said yes, and Stormbreaker took it upon himself to do what was best for his partner.
They got married in a small court setting and Helia got pregnant almost immediately afterwards, and once she told him, Stormbreaker practically forced his new wife to give up athletics for the baby's health, even if it was too early for physical activity to effect her pregnancy. Helia assumed that her husband knew best and didn't question him, simply assuming that he was fussing over her and the baby like any stallion would. Stormbreaker continued to work at the same pace as before, being gone for weeks at a time while she puttered around the house by herself. She gave birth to Daffodil in very early spring while Stormbreaker was in the Crystal Empire and he didn't return home until Daff was a few weeks old. Fortunately, Helia had her older sister Sassaflash to help care for her and Daff post-pregnancy, especially while her husband was away.
Within a few months of having Daffodil, Helia got pregnant again. And just like before, Stormbreaker was always away for work reasons and stressed when he was around that she couldn't do anything strenuous (like physical activity), so she was stuck in the house doing nothing but taking care of her baby and being pregnant with her second child. Helia had Skywriter and when Stormbreaker finally came home to meet his second-born, he was disappointed because she seemed to ignore him completely unless he was right in front of her. Even then, she didn't seem very interested in her father. Daff, on the other hand, was desperate to receive his attention, which he barely gave. Helia couldn't return back to her athletic career, not after having two kids to care for, so she stuck to being a stay-at-home mom and started gardening in her spare time. She soon realized that Skywriter couldn't hear her, especially when she was with her children all day, so she took her to the doctor where they confirmed that her youngest daughter was deaf. Helia was unaffected by the news and was more focused on making sure Skywriter had options for accessibility, while Stormbreaker was visibly upset by it and refused to learn sign language, claiming that his child should be able to read lips if she had always been deaf.
