Description
Some people asked how I made mine, so. Here this... thing is!I did it this way because I hate model magic with a passion.
And I'm clumsy so I wanted something that could hold up to being banged into walls repeatedly. (They can! Not even a dent on em.)

I hope you dont mind if i ask because i think this is very old and i know nothing about insulation foam, but how did you make them round when you cut it out of the foam? Isnt it typically flat?

I sanded it down by hand with various grits of sand paper

So you take maybe two of the horns and glue them together and sand them to make them round?

If the foam you're using is thin, yeah! The stuff I was using was thick enough that I didn't need to.

would it have to be Smooth-On? or would any kind of polyurethane resin work?

How were you able to make that notch of the Dolorosa's horns with a saw? I don't own such a saw too :S Have any other ideas how to make that notch?

Have you ever had any problems with your horns getting damaged? I made a pair similar to this a long time ago but they didn't turn out as well as I would have liked so I'm remaking them (artistry issue, not a problem with the materials I used). The tutorial I followed ran two shiskabobs through the length of the horns (Gamzee), one through the base and one through the very end of the tip to help reinforce it so it didn't snap. Have your horns ever snapped off anywhere at all? Yours skips a few steps with pretty satisfying looking results (if you use a finer grit sandpaper at the tips, you'll won't have to worry as much about accidently breaking them and you can sand them to a finer point btw). I prefer foam because it's so light and won't break or crack if you drop it.

I've had them snap off at the base- basically the threaded insert comes right out o_o Takes a good fall to make it happen though and it's easy enough to hot/super glue back in at least

This is an awesome tutorial! Thanks for all of the advice. I have one question, though.
I have taken various steps from various tutorials, and one of the tips that I took away from this one is to use rigid foam insulation instead of Styrofoam. You said that this is typically available in scraps at hardware stores. However, when I went to both Home Depot and Aco Hardware, the employees told me that scraps being present is an infrequent occurrence.
Where do you generally go to get your scraps? Is there a specific store that has them more often, or should I just call these stores every few days to see if they have any in?

Well, personally I've only heard of people getting scraps... I've always just bought full sheets myself since I use it so frequently. :T They used to sell smaller sheets but these days I can only find the 8x4 sheets.

Would gesso work instead of Smooth-Cast? No one in my town sells it.

Oh you have to buy smooth-on online usually... Gesso isn't going to be as durable and it'll take a LOT more coats, but you can try? Or something like Mod Podge maybe.

Hm, I don't recall like the specific brand or anything, just that they are threaded metal inserts...

Hussie has asked people to not do Homestuck commissions so I'm gonna respect his wishes. I could certainly answer any questions on how to make your own though, there are ways to simplify my method if you don't have the same tools.
