Description
These are some doodles (done in ball point pen without any guidelines, so please ignore the messed up dude on the top right of the page) of characters for a story idea that come to me back in October... a story I was going to write for NaNoWriMo before I decided to continue Healer's Quest instead. These characters are from a story idea I have titled Sages of Vian, and it is a fantasy/sci-fi/alternate dimension type story. Vian is a parallel world that at one time was connected to Earth, but then a barrier formed that divided the two. Earth became industrialized and became dependent upon machines and technology; Vian manipulated their genes to give themselves inhuman super-powers.
Anyway, on the top left we have Master Arundel, the youngest sage to ever be elected to the Sage Council. He is an enigma even to his fellow Councilmembers, and the only thing anyone really knows about him is that he is a prodigy from the revered House of Ennyon... the purest sage family in the entire nation of Sedania, and the family that was responsible for sending one of their own, centuries ago, across the barrier into the legendary world of Earth (a nigh impossible feat) to be a "gatekeeper" between the two worlds.
At the bottom, we have:
Gallena Durwood, a seventeen-year-old high school senior. Unbeknowst to anyone, both of her parents are descendents of the gatekeeper sent to Earth by the Ennyon family; therefore, Galli and her three siblings were born with unusual abilites... Most importantly, the ability to open "doorways" between Earth and Vian. Galli's powers manifested themselves one day as she was walking along the dirt road to her house, creating a doorway to Vian, and she walk right into the middle of a battle between two sages.
Kragon is the tough-looking fellow on the right with the scar down his face. Born Maxim Cragonil to a high-ranking aristocratic family in the nation of Sedania, instead of being considered a blessing (as most sage-child are), his family practically disowned him... considering him a blight on their perfect, non-sage lineage. He grew up bitter and defiant to the point of changing his name slightly. He is a Magus... a warrior-sage ...and one of the best, though his superiors are wary and terrified of him as he is so rebellious and there were even rumors that he knocked one of his superiors unconscious. He even refused all offers to take a position beneath one of the Sage Masters until Master Arundel approached him. To everyone's bewilderment, Kragon accepted Arundel's offer and actually obeys him. He goes out on missions for Arundel and accompanies the Master Sage almost everywhere he goes.
By the way, Kragon is sporting the birthmark at the base of his neck that all sage-children are born with, which is called a "mark-collar". Each sage has a mark-collar with unique designs that designate what Disciple of Power they possess... Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Life, and/or Mind ...as well as their strength and skill levels. This is why most sages keep their mark-collars covered, giving rise to the high-collared clothing style of the sages.
Kragon, if you have not already noticed, is rather defiant and does not mind showing off his abilites and strength level to anyone who knows how to "read" a mark-collar. On the other hand, no one has even seen Master Arundel's mark-collar, and it is rumored that with he was able to erase his through self-healing or something.
