Description

The state of Kanawha, OTL West Virginia, represents the state's mining and farming with pickax and shovel.

The state has a similar history of having been part of Virginia until an alternate civil war in which the shareholding states secede following the collapse in northern support for the "Grand Alliance" of slave states and northern Francophone states. They had been an unhappy bloc since the nation's founding, both being outnumbered by Free and Anglophone states respectively, collectively blocking any attempt to interfere with slavery or French language and culture until increasing numbers of abolitionist voters made the morally repugnant alliance of convenience increasingly untenable. With the southern slave states seceding and taking Virginia with them, the mountainous western counties met and agreed to re-join the Union, under a name which was proposed IRL; Kanawha.
