Description

In this TL, the entire Samoan island chain is an American possession after buying out the UK's protectorate in the late 19th century. It is also the most recent state to join the Union, having been passed over for widespread mainlander settlement and culture for decades owing to the distance, and less strategic position compared to the Micronesian islands. The population makes it one of the smaller states, and an economy based around agriculture and ecotourism isn't making many Wall Street headlines but pays the bills, especially once the wider USA goes wild for Kava grown here. When the territory gains full statehood in 2002, the US flag gains it's 64th star, and is raised alongside the state flag which recalls the national flag in colors and canton, with the Southerns Cross in stars to represent Samoa's distinctive place south of the Equator.

This flag is the same as IRL Samoan national flag, it's really good already.
