Page #12 on my mermaid drawing guide.This one deals with additional fins on the mermaid tails besides the tail fin. As you can see, fins on the back, front, and sides of the tail are totally optional.

ok what about "Ceolacanth" fins here like legs but with fish fins. for a better picture look up images of a ceolacanth

Hence the five different variations here which the artist approves of, in contrast two the two variations which he feels are unsatisfactory.

Well yes, but that's just the artists opinion, there's no CORRECT way to draw something that doesn't exist.

At this point we could get into a discussion about the philosophy of aesthetics, and whether there is an objective notion of beauty that allows us to make judgments about the worthiness of art- but let's save that one for a rainy day.
