Description Initial experiment with gore for Halloween events in 2010 - PVA glue and tissue paper applied to hand, mixed with red and yellow food colourings and dried up old Games Workshop paints.

Hoping to acquire some better tools and continue these experiments.

Looks nice. But you should concentrate on some research I guess. Im a medical student and I get to see a lot of corpses so depending on the...lets say injuries/ cause of death, they have different coloring.

Black is usually necrosis. The way you've made your hand look it seems lie some one shot it with a gun (black hole thingy looks like gunshot wound) and on top of that it looks like it was burnt as well not to mention the ongoing necrosis thingy.

The discoloration in the 'non-damaged'parts of the skin, aka the fingers looks remarcably realistic, like a corpse left in late november when its kinda cold and found a few days after. I commend you on your work with the nails, though. I don't know how bad or good your webcam is, but I can tell you that what I can see from the index and middle finger nails is spot on.

About the brown colorored parts. It should look like more reddish-black than actual brown. Since its actually clotted blood. These type of colored spots form since there is no blood circulation and it settles in the lowest areas and stuff.

Now, a bit constructive criticism ( i hope) to make the zombie effect more realistic you should try researching the type of wound you want to recreate.

For example, when one deals with necrosis, its more bluish black and its blueish on the edges. And it should flow.
The patch of skin around the super realistic gun wound would look better if it only was the gun wound alone. It looks like someone shot the victim after it had been killed.

The angry red where the hand looks like it had been burned so bad the skin peeled off looks great, but when taking into account all the other elements, it looks unrealistic. Why? Because blood does not remain angry red when one is dead and when everything else around it looks like the wounds of a dead corpse from a few days to a few weeks.

To make it more realistic, I think you need to mae it more crispy looking, the burnt part that is. I've seen what a burnt to death man looks like in the morgue and its either charred or crispy looking.

Still, with everything taken into account, including the fact I dont know you or if you even use reference or anything of the kind, I must say you did a commendable job, hands down.

PS: You can actually practice less gory and less severe injuries, to feign hurt when needed Practice makes perfect, and if you were a medical student in my University and with these set of skills, my Anatomy professor will love you to bits. He is awesomely anal about accuracy and you'll learn tons of interesting trauma characteristics from him. He is a doctor with 50 years of experience or so.

Thanks for the massive input, Fiarrella

I think you're overestimating my intentions and the effort put into this, however - this item was chiefly accidental and experimental. The discolouration on my hands is solely an artifact of the fact I used my fingers to mix the materials - my fingernails are utterly unmodified, I just have a habit of biting them since childhood, and they got dirty with paint and food colouring while I was working.

The eventual result was 'burn-like' by sheer accident initially, then I touched it up with black acrylic paints to amplify that effect. Very interpretive work. Furthermore, the colours were significantly altered by the webcam I used to take the picture. This was a very casual job with rudimentary tools and lacking the arrogance to aim for a specific goal, as an amateur.

If I end up making any kind of major hobby or living out of special effects work I'll remember your words well, and I'll certainly be putting in the research myself. Thankfully, my own closest friend is going into medicine and is about to be interviewed by a local university for medschool - I should get some detailed feedback from her on what she witnesses, as she either seeks to become a surgeon or a general practitioner.

I'm glad you approve! If you Watch me I'll try to include more detailed descriptions of method and intention in future gore submissions, and I'd enjoy discussing them.

I'm glad you liked my reply. I generally refrain from uploading any pictures from the dissection halls, since that sort of macabre is ACTUAL macabre and not everyone can stomach those kind of things. In order to get good research ask your friend for live pictures. Personally, the corpses we work with are mummified, so to speak, with formaline and they are dakrer than , lets say, an actual rotting corpse. But we do get to see all kinds of corpses since there are such in the forensic part of the morgue ( which we manage to sneak into on occasion it is strictly forbidden to go there but we are friends with the personnel there.)

For starters on research, try making a list with the different types of injuries and how they rot later on on a corpse for the desired zombie effect. I honestly believe you have great potential in this field of work and you can probably recreate scales and even metal looking skin as well!

I am looking forward to more works of this line as I find myself fascinated with this kind of thing to a decree. It might sound strange, but when I look at such things my mind starts to speculate about how this kind of state came to being. And I like speculating a lot.

To cut a long story short, I will put you on Watch .
