Backstory: The lone researcher spends his days analysing the local climate and processing data.

After decades of global warming, the planet went through a period of global cooling, followed by another episode of warming, and now, apparently, it's back to cooling.

The researcher isn't entirely sure what purpose his data serves, but as long as he's doing his bit for the system and helping to prevent the current crisis, he's happy.

He has no family since the family unit was deemed to be outdated and nonbeneficial to society a long time ago. Only the weak and helpless cling to concepts such as love and emotional-connectivity, and they're thankfully declining in numbers.

Technology and transhumanism has awoken humanity and freed man from his shackles, as he can now work longer hours and dedicate himself to the system without ever having to feel overworked, disgruntled, lonely or underpaid. He is free of feelings. He is free of pain. He is free of himself at last. All that matters is progress. All that matters is the evolution of man into machine.
