Description
When it comes to planning out a two page spread for my book, Worldview, I make sure I get everything laid out compositionally first, so all the elements sit together without important information being lost in the centreline of the two pages or too close to the edges of the spread. In this case, the silhouetted man on the left is way too close to the edge, so he will be in danger of being cropped off and lost forever. I need to take action to save him, so at some stage I must replace him within the safe zone of the deadly printer. Compositionally, he doesn't look very good being perched that close to the edge anyway, so he will be relieved to know I have a new location for him in digital space.
Other things to look out for include tangents - there's nothing worse than edges of elements lining up with other elements to form annoying and distracting forms. Sometimes alignments need to be in sinc, sometimes they need to be 'out of sinc'.
There are a number of things to do with this very rough layout in its current state, but for now, I'm just setting up as many pages and spreads as I can, so as to return to them later on. The sketch itself is still very rough too, so much work will be done to render it to a high standard for the book.
