In my opinion, the man behind the mask is very sad.This is for 's contest exploring the idea of Master Chief: the Man Behind the Mask.
I think he's got more than one mask. There's the physical mask that is keeping us from seeing his face, and there is the stony soldier mask that gets him through the day. In essence, poor John is alone. And I can imagine how lonely it is to suddenly lose all your friends and family in one fell swoop like he did. In "The Flood" he remarked to himself about how save Cortana, after Reach there wasn't a soul left alive who knew his name was John.
And he was looking at his own reflection a second ago, but his eye has wandered now. Every SPARTAN had armor like his... I wonder how many faces he is actually looking at in this moment.
So its my MC design from my comic in a real moody portrait. I've been meaning to make something like this for a long time, and I still owe Kitty a gift pic from before, but I thought I'd channel my many motivations into one well-lighted portrait.

I hope 343 bastards dont kill chief at the end of this trilogy as Bungie did with Sgt. Johnson and Commander Keyes, also, if theyre planning to keep on the saga alive kick Davidge out and bring Salvatori and OΒ΄Donnell back. Im not saying that Davidge is a bad composer, i love the songs he made for H4 but to replace the good old Halo soundtrack that we all love and addore was just insulting for both the fans and the saga.

I don't think you have to worry about them killing Chief. They can't make infinity sequels if they kill the chief... although whether he's going to be the same character by the end, no one can say.Β

I feel he is too. After reading the books its obvious. There are so many times when he longs and wishes and is afraid. He is human underneath his SPARTAN body. I love this.

Oh, wow! This is one of the few MC facial designs that actually suits! Well done, you!
Aside from meaningless art-love, the painting is beautifully done, and the mood is angsty without depressing the viewer. I kind of feel contemplative, more than anything, with a little bit of pity.

I actually like this picture because it looks pretty real to his description, but I mean some aging effects wouldn't hurt either, he is 41, BUT NICE PIC BTW.

He's 41 but through chryo and lack of sun the community generally assumes he's more like 35... the chryo especially plays into this since the cells wouldn't age while frozen.

Yea.. He's the Arbiter, it's his name. Master Chief and Him fought in an energy sword duel but Thel was sucked into the top floor before the ship broke apart so he couldn't die. 17 years Later Thel is back. Lol, you should draw him, Halo is alot like the bible if you have read some of the bible, it's a story I cannot possibly get enough of.

I really love this picture, it's probably my favorite in your gallery. You conveyed so much emotion into it it's unreal. For some reason every time I see it, the song Hurt (Johnny Cash version) comes to mind...That's probably just me though...

I could never do that. I have a need to keep my identity, my name. Although I think that a name is a description and not what something really IS, I need my name.
And I could never do what he does. I might never survive the training he had to do. I was frightened of the Flood's first appearance in Halo 1. They say war changes people, but what happens if that person is never OUT of war their entire life?

Nice work! I really like his expression! And you are right about the sadness, besides I wonder if his family is still alive or if he remembers them, or my most interesting though is what would happen if he had a chance to go home? If he has relatives left alive that is.
