Description
16/07/13 - The Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Auronzo / Misurina, Dolomites, Italy.Camera data (Exif):
Canon EOS 6D
EF17-40mm
F/11
Exp 1/250 sec
ISO-100
The Te Cime (or Drei Zinnen) as the name implies are comprised of three monolithic towers and are one of the best known mountain groups in the alps. The centre tower, Cima Grande, is one of the six great north faces of the alps and carries much prestige. This particular day was incredibly windy and the clouds were streaming off the top providing a very atmospheric shot.
Thanks for viewing.

Wow, just wow. I feel like what I'm seeing has to be huge because of the clouds but my eyes make me feel as if it's just a slight bit away. The mountains in the background really key you in though, wow that must be huge. Nice, especially the flowers to the left, it's a nice touch for when people take a little while longer to look at the photo.

Awesome i'm more of a fan of the Aostan mountains, but the Dolomites are really beautiful, impossible to deny. The first are like a romanic basilica, big, solid and solemn, and the latter are more like gothic cathedrals, tall and aerial.

Very cool shot!!
How are you liking that 6D? I am planning to get a FF camera in about 6 months (once I've saved up enough money) and I wonder if I should go with a dslr, or with something like the new Sony A7.

Thanks very much. Personally I love the 6D but as DimensionSeven suggests it really depends on what you are planning to do with it. Certainly for night and low light photography it's excellent. But a crop frame is arguably better for wildlife (generally higher burst rate and easier to get closer).Β For me writing guidebooks I find the wifi and GPS invaluable. The remote trigger app coupled with the wifi means I can set the camera up on a tripod and feasiblyΒ photo whilst belaying a climber at the same time.
Β
Some excellent reviews of the 6DΒ (and other cameras) at dpreview.Β Certainly don't discount Nikon and Sony.
Β
Hope that helps

Thank you for that valuable feedback. It is exactly the type of info I need so that I can make an informed decision. Full-frame cameras are expensive, so I want to be sure it is going to be the best tool for me (considering the direction I want to take my photography). As you point out, because this is a significant departure from the traditional wildlife photorgaphy I've been doing, I should not overlook the possibility of getting into a Nikon or Sony.
Thank you!

Which of your shouts would have had any benefit from FF? I don't see any in your gallery. For wildlife, esp. for birds, APS-C wins.

I think my style is evolving. I am less interested in close-up portraits of birds now, and going more for shots like my "Solitude", "Taking Flight", and "Algonquin at Daybreak". I believe that a FF camera may give me a chance for even better image quality. But I would value your input on this, because you had experience with a FF.

Go for the 5D or 6D. Β The bread and butter of a camera system is the lens selection, and Canon is going to have everyone beat for quite some time. Β Plus, you can use the lenses that you already own which will cut back significantly on the cost.
