Description This little zebra was fun to make.
Despite having a rather complicated pattern for the body, the stripes made it easy to count the stitches and rows.
I think I'll do another one some time soon.

About 8cm (roughly 3") from nose to tail.
Mane knotted on. Eyes are yellow rocailles.

several days (but that was because I got lazy and let it lie unfinished for a while).
I would say I worked on it for 4 to 5 hours.

if you have a well explained pattern and photos to show you how it's supposed to look, it's rather easy, I suppose.
the things I do without a pattern take me muuuuch longer. (and if I procrastinate, it can take months... )

Oh wow... I'd probably just give up... (I'm not great with things like crocheting >.< I guess if I practiced a lot it wouldn't take as long.

I learned crocheting in elementary school. didn't do it for 15 years before I started again last year. it went very well right away. to me, it's just very easy. much easier than knitting.
I'll be continuing my current project soon. the half finished dolls are staring at me rather accusingly. should be enough to stop my procrastination phase.

That's interesting. ^^ I guess you found your art form (or one of them )

Yeah, probably best to get to those dolls... nothing like accusing stares from inanimate objects.

janey-in-a-bottle In reply to Ura-pon [2008-10-20 09:20:25 +0000 UTC]

seeing how I had some practice already when working on this one, the time it took (without the many breaks) was about the same as for the pig.
as I said, the stripes made it easier to keep track of the stitch count and the rows.

but I agree about it being worth the effort. it's the second cutest of the lot for me.

I have to say I'm particularly pleased with how the eyes turned out. I managed to sew them on in a way that the thread looks like the pupils.

What I'd like to learn is how you crocheted a freaking rock.

oh... OHHHH!!! now I get it...

replied to your comment without looking at the pic again...

the question remains, though. why would you want to crochet a rock, if you can easily find one outside your front door?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chef-Kyros In reply to janey-in-a-bottle [2008-10-21 00:31:11 +0000 UTC]

BECAUSE.

A crocheted rock isn't hard like a real rock.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

janey-in-a-bottle In reply to Chef-Kyros [2008-10-21 09:06:27 +0000 UTC]

that's only of importance if you want to throw it...
a real rock looks far more natural though. and lazy as I am, I go the easy way and DON'T crochet rocks.

Chef-Kyros In reply to janey-in-a-bottle [2008-10-21 15:11:06 +0000 UTC]

But.. But.. how ever will you build up your skills when you need to crochet bigger and bigger rocks to boulders and mountains to mountain ranges to meteors and asteroids to planets?

Janey, the journey of a thousand miles always begins with a single step, so don't get discouraged! Hang in there!

hahahaha

Chef-Kyros In reply to janey-in-a-bottle [2008-10-22 20:52:40 +0000 UTC]

Janey, shutting yourself in your room and taking comfort in crocheting to escape the world, while it may help for now, isn't healthy. Remember, you have friends out here who will help you (and one who wants a hydra).

janey-in-a-bottle In reply to Chef-Kyros [2008-10-22 21:37:56 +0000 UTC]

well, master of the twisted word, my room is comfy... and you won't reach me there demanding your hydra. because even if I ever manage to get one done, how would I send it to you without leaving the room?
so, I think I'll stay here. just because you want me out of there.

btw, would you be willing to pay for it?

Chef-Kyros In reply to janey-in-a-bottle [2008-10-23 00:40:28 +0000 UTC]

Mwahaha my ploy worked! *cough, I mean, hmm.. pay for it? As in, buy you materials, etc.? And, I thought a dragon would be cool too but that's pretty plain and it feels like an everyday thing. Ooh... just thought maybe a three-headed hell hound would be cool too!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

janey-in-a-bottle In reply to Chef-Kyros [2008-10-23 08:36:05 +0000 UTC]

suuuure... keep throwing complicated stuff at me.
I have a feeling that the hydra would be the easier project... that's NOT to say I'll start working on it next.

and paying as in you pay for the time I needed for it... if I set 5$ for 1 hour, you might not want to pay the price.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chef-Kyros In reply to janey-in-a-bottle [2008-10-23 15:33:40 +0000 UTC]

$5 per hour? Yeah, that would be totally unfair, seeing as how it'd probably take you aeons just to finish that you.. you.. procrastinator you!

though seriously you've been quite.. fast? haven't you? with this new project of yours.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

janey-in-a-bottle In reply to Chef-Kyros [2008-10-23 16:29:55 +0000 UTC]

around 4 hours per animal, yeah... the zebra took me over a week to finish, but only because I stopped working on it for a while. all in all the time for that may have been around 5 hours...

a hydra would take me longer... there are 7 heads and necks to make, after all... hey, would you be fine with only 3? those would be easier to apply to the body.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chef-Kyros In reply to janey-in-a-bottle [2008-10-23 18:02:46 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... that's a pretty good compromise... I suppose you'd have to make a huge body to accomodate 7 heads (and necks), and then that'd lead to a bigger animal than the rest... though I suppose if hydras really existed they would be WAY bigger than zebras or moles or whatnot. Right?
