under the text field you write the comment in there's a link saying "emoticons". click on that and you see all officially available emotes with the notation you need to make them appear in comments, journals, artist's comments etc. just copy and paste, and if you're unsure if what you did was correct, click on preview first to see if the notation actually works.
then there's the plz-accounts, too. there's no list of those. most of the time you find them by seeing them pop up in other people's comments. those you can use in the same way you make avatars appear in comments.

I think I'm using a 2.5mm hook. could be 3, though. the number was printed on the handle once, but it vanished in relatively short time...

all depends on how thick the yarn is, though. I've worked with a 4mm hook before, too.

it's a little to small and light for that.
but with thicker yarn and heavier filling, sure, it could be one. I just wonder if it'd keep smiling like that if it kept getting kicked.

Did you crochet on the facial features after building the ball? If so, why, and do you think it would be hard to crochet them in as you go? A few hackey sacks I've seen have fairly detailed patterns in the main weave (hemp leaves, usually... )

I crocheted the facial parts separately and sewed them on.
that was because I hadn't come across the tapestry crochet technique then, or else I might have tried to make it that way (would have looked closer to the original dA emotes too). though this is my style for the emotes now, so I'll probably keep doing it that way.

and if I really managed to make you make your own, that'd be awesome.
