Description since there has been quite a few people asking about how i make these multi layer halftone stencils i thought that instead of trying to explain it to each person i should make a tutorial.
as far as i know there is no tutorial for multi layer halftones.

so here it is my first ever tutorial, not sure how good it is , let me know if it helps at all
looking forward to seeing peoples work
enjoy

well here's my first attemt. I did the yellow and cyan layers. I'm sure those colors would look much better than what I used. I'll have to play around with some different colors. Which two colors make the best overall picture in your opinion? I really like the magenta and cyan layer version you did on that picture that is also full cmyk. [link]
Thanks again for the tutorial!

im hope this tutorial help you with making the stencil, i find that a black layer over a cyan, magenta or yellow layer turns out the best.

seems like a step is missing between 2 and 3... where did all those layers come from? before that all u had done was set the image to cmyk? i am confused

Thanks Jarbid. Fantastic tut mate. I must've looked at hundreds of different tuts on every kind of stencilling. One actually only had 4 steps. Find your image, 'create a stencil', cut it out and spray it. Jesus ! I have to say your's is undoubtedly the clearest and best laid out I've seen. Be nice to have seen the spraycans as the full 4 layer stencil at the end, although I like just the black and blue layers that you've also posted. Never thought of doing less than all 4 layers of a CMYK. Now if you could just do a tut on dot halftones, with the emphasis on how to handle the islands.....

eccstiali In reply to oxygenrich [2011-05-25 04:47:43 +0000 UTC]

@~oxygenrich What you need is the fork application (designed for halftone stencils) of Rasterbator. A link can be found here [link] This program keeps a minimum gap so even your largest dots have bridges surrounding them!

thanks for the feedback, its always good to know that this has helped people, when i find the time ill make a few more tutorials on the different types of stenciling. its all ways good to give back to the stencil community.

jarbid In reply to RoosterStencil [2009-10-05 03:48:26 +0000 UTC]

yeh thats right.

when i make a cmyk halftone stencil i dont worry about yellow separation
and when painting i do the red layer first then blue, and do the black last.
