Arkham Asylum as to locations in Gotham City, there is the classic version that we know of, where the institution's history was explored in A Serious House on Serious Earth, and then there's the Arkham seen in 2004's The Batman. In the DC Unlimited, both of these buildings exist in the same continuity. Much like Arkham Origins, the old Asylum was closed after the death of Amadeus Arkham, the founder and eventual inmate of Gotham's darkest home for the criminally insane. When Batman first appeared, and more "colorful" threats began to rise, it was decided that Arkham would re-open in a new facility, leaving the old Asylum abandoned, as a rotting reminder of Gotham's illness.
