" Ahahahahahaha. "
You know that Cthulhu is an immortal freak monster
and its full nature is not even embedded
in the limiting realm of reality? ^^

His head was once split appart by a motorboat just to regenerate afterwards.
And just looking at him for too long will overload anyones mind with whatever ungodly information enters over the visual senses.
Godzilla is just a big frail lizard that cannot even look at him for too long.

So Godzilla, a mere "Kaiju" can beat a "Great Old One" you say?

Godzie is just a big energy shooting, screaching Superdinosaur is it not?
While Cthulhu is something like a Demon-God-Monster and his mortal Vessel only a temporary creation.

Β  how would you rate the plot and authenticity of the Godzilla franchise in overall?

Cthulu "died" to getting rammed by a boat in the original mythos story. No matter how you slice it Godzilla both deals more and tanks more damage than Cthulu while crossing the street. Now, Cthulu has potentially the ability to call upon actual MAGIC of at least a demi god tier so he might be able to magic Godzilla into another reality but PHYSICALLY Godzilla wipes the floor with Cthulu thanks entirely to the "Call of Cthulu" novel.

"Planetary threats do NOT lose to sailboats"

You are also assuming that the "Alien mind" of Cthulu is going to work against a lizard brain which is written in generic fiction as being entirely different from a human's brain. Godzilla might literally just see "Monster of the week", wreck his shit and walk on.

Finally, for all the Cthulu mumbo jumbo (and I write this while playing Eldritch Horror on Tabletop simulator) Cthulu has never shown any actual supernatural miracles, spells, or specific abilities beyond "I look scary, be afraid to the point of insanity" and regeneration. The ability to alter mens' minds MIGHT have been caused by Cthulu in the original story or it might simply be because the psychics were SEEING him awakened because of their own powers revealing a possible future with Cthulu awakened meaning he doesn't even get the ability to "alter minds of psychics" as a confirm-able ability.

For all the world I want Cthulu to crush Godzilla and be a true armegeddon tier threat however Cthulu has never wielded the powers of a god, just the powers of a scary monster and Godzilla is STILL "King of Monsters".

You know about Cthulhu but just call him a planetary threat when he is actually a universal threat.

The brain theory is also unknown to us. Apparently Human brains have lizard brain ancestry within them.
And Godzilla is not just a dumb lizard but much more of a intelligent being.
More on the level of a Gorilla at least.

Also Cthulhu did not die truly.
He died "temporarily" but regenerated right afterwards.
You cannot kill him and just staring at him flood you with knowledge to frightening for normal beings to endure.

What is Godzilla if not just a veeeeeeeeeery biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig ANIMAL. In the end that is all that Godzilla is.
Stupid feral screaming and packing a punch does not protect your mind from eldritch influence.
Not as far as I know. Even all of the Old Ones cultists are nutjobs to the most part.

If intelligence is a wall of protection against input too much to bear it, Humans can handle it even better most probably.
You cannot tell me that a giant wildlife Animal which is most probably not able to think creatively like Humans, is able to whitstand the crawling madness.
Yeah Godzilla may be able to punch holes in Cthulhu.
But he will be his most useful servant just the same after simply gawking at his new Master for a few moments.

Either that or Godzilla will be food.
Simply by Cthulhu ordering the "King of Monsters" not to resist while he leisurely rips him appart for a taste.
People offer themself willingly to Cthulhu. Why is that? Because he 'orders' them!
They want to be of service to him in any way possible.

Godzie poses the same level of threat to Cthulhu as the worlds strongest flea. ^^

You've given your opinion three times now.

Cthulu is nowhere NEAR a universal threat. Azathoth is. Azathoth is potentially a multi-dimensional tier threat. Again, Cthulu has NEVER shown any sort of continental level abilities let alone planetary. I gave him planetary because the book written by the actual creator of Cthulu insists he is planetary level. There is no proof of this claim.

You've said that because humans have what people CALL a lizard brain that Godzilla would react to things the same way a human would. That's like saying that because he has blood he can die from AIDS. That's like saying he's susceptible to human-killing viruses and bacteria. That is not an argument, that's a hypothesis and unsubstantiated at that.

Godzilla being intelligent doesn't make him less ALIEN anymore than "Cthulu is intelligent so then he's human therefor he is evil for he breaks the rules and morals of human society". Again, Cthulu is Alien to humanity and Godzilla is a giant radioactive lizard, therefor he's ALSO Alien to humanity. Cthulu's mind boggle simply may not work on Godzilla. Stupification / fear power in this comparison doesn't equate to direct psionic assault, however. It's more of an PBAoE psionic fear and sanity reduction aura that is intensified by looking directly on Cthulu. Blind people can still be driven to madness by Cthulu's presence. However, again, Godzilla came through Hell, LITERAL HELL and didn't have any fear or terror, or mind ghosts-terrors-nightmares about it.

"Eldritch Influence" is a questionable quantity at the very least. At the most its completely dismissed as a undefinable god-mode button. What is the Eldritch Influence capable of? What resist it? What is weak to it? What enhances it? Where does it come from? Some people are too dumb to know fear. Some people can't see color. Look at sharks, they don't normally "fear" things. They can be disturbed by things. Same with bears. And humans. But we don't all fear the same things. Not to forget Godzilla went through Hell and had no fear at all.

"What is Godzilla if not just a veeeeeeeeeery biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig ANIMAL. In the end that is all that Godzilla is."

You've never been near a big carnivore, have you? A human killing meat eater? In the real world they use shock awe and fear many times to intimidate prey into cowering weakness. Godzilla is a good deal larger than Cthulu, he's not going to give in to fear so easily. He'd be generating his own fear. Tearing through cities like butter is pretty fear inspiring. The roar's can be especially terrifying when they pierce your skin and "wrattle your bones". Lion's roars and trains during cold nights can do that. Personal experience.

Godzilla HAS been "mind controlled" on several occasions. Destroy all Monsters and Godzilla vs Space Godzilla, for instance. However, in the later one Godzilla started to resist Mickie's psionics and even blew her mind out despite her using a techno-babble telepathic booster.

His mind is said to be closer to that of a bird's than a regular furry mammal. Godzilla 1984 / 1985.

Tank rounds have bounced off his skin. Various armor penetration rounds have also failed to pierce his skin. Then, again in Space Godzilla, a single armor piercing bullet fired from a portable automatic weapon will supposedly pierce his skin (the Yuki special). But unless the weapon is a "plot device" weapon it is always the same old story of bounce-right-off. Compare this to Cthulu who is for sure written as being injured by a sailboat. Godzilla is multiple tiers above Cthulu in physicality. To follow your metaphors Cthulu's strength vs Godzilla's would be like a toddler trying to beat a MMA champion into submission.

Cthulu MIGHT be able to magic-whammy Godzilla but the problem is despite how the story jacks up Cthulu's power to inconceivable levels it has never given him any true feats. Nothing concrete. I addressed that in my first post. To put it again in simplest terms: Cthulu has never done ANYTHING but get tossed by a sailboat. All talk and no action. Without any actual fights or feats to back up his street cred Cthulu is left with nothing but a splitting headache. From a sailboat. Cause it hit him in the head and knocked him for a loss. Godzilla has tanked city-to-country level meteor strikes and held his ground.

Cthulu lost to something comparable to a city bus doing 50mph

Godzilla tanked a meteor and wasn't fazed at all.

Yes, Cthulu might have an edge in the mind whammy department (might)

Yes, Cthulu might have elder magic that could slay Godzilla (might)

And in the same vein I MIGHT be right behind you as your reading this. It's not impossible but it IS improbable.

Cthulu has never demonstrated any powers that could do anything other than annoy Godzilla. He SHOULD posses amazing and utterly terrifying abilities from the way the story is written however...

he has demonstrated NO SUCH POWERS.

Azathoth, however, would wear Gogetta as a condom when he went to town on Planetary Godzilla. Azathoth was expressly written with the ability to alter reality of things "near" him and that while sleeping. Considering the book described him as his own galaxy and around that time galaxy many times had the same meaning as what we think of when we say "universe". Azathoth potentially would have at least the power scale of a full Infinity gauntlet (comic which is far more powerful than movie). Azathoth is basically his own universe / dimensional plane. He can probably tear down all the D&D pantheons by himself including planesworld's Lady of Pain. Azathoth was actually a being held down by a pact between good and evil gods, intelligences, and Old Ones. It says something about a "monster" when angels and demons work together CONSTANTLY to keep it unconscious (they can't even kill it)

Ugh so much text. I stabbed a Hornetnest?

Okay at this point it is clear we just differ in expectation for what happens if one just gazes at Cthulhu.
You think nothing happens. I think everything happens.
That much is clear now.

To be honest I must admit I have no true fascination for Godzie anyway.
I found its design very cheap and "basic" since the first time I came across it.
It reminded me of the Powerranger Zords just in organic cause I knew Powerrrangers first.
( Ahhh good times, huhuhuhuhuhu. )

Okay -> then let me conclude. Godzie wins no matter what happens.
He/She/It is bigger, better, stronger, faster. ( LoL )

You know what? Now I just come along and say "Goku can take it." or "Saitama can take it."
And I just know I am 100% right. Cause these are overpowered freaks Godzie will never beat.
These guys -> Β  ->
"Dragonball Z" and "One Punch Man".
( Also I like their design more but that is of little concern. )

I think this level of comparisation is fair.
Since it is just about brute power am I right?
Same thing as if I had used Superman or Supergirl.
It may be true but I guess they are just from different universes and our big Dino-like friend will be very glad not having to meet them. Β

Godzilla may be the first big supermonster ever created.
But if power is all that Godzie has going for itself then I am not impressed. Other fictional beings can do better.

What I like about Cthulhu are his otherworldy, mysterious properties.
His manifestation of being like a forbidden book of knowledge.
And the thought that there are forces out there which can turn you either into something superhuman or super miserable in mere moments.

Like when you participate in the lottery.
The chance to lose is big but the slim, slim chance to get something is also there.
So what is it gonna be? In the end death claims us all.
We might go out with a bang if we have to. And the lovecraftian entitys can do that.

While all that Godzilla can do is just either kill you or let you live.
I fail to see the attraction in Godzie as a whole.

City-of-Zeroes In reply to DunkleMaterie [2019-11-20 16:56:49 +0000 UTC]

Godzilla's original concept was based on the horrors of WWII and the atomic bombs. I've seen a statue that was a half a kilometer from the blast center. It had bubbled and boiled. You can see the statue at the UN if you ever get to go to New York. The blast was like the power of the sun had been pulled down to earth, passed our protective covering, passed the Van Allen belts, and lit ablaze a fire of which there was no way to put out. To be even near objects burned by the star-flame was to be stricken with invisible poison and to die from a fire that had long gone out. It was magical in a devilish way. It was inhuman to think in our hubris we had pulled down a star and tried to use it's power for our own. A power we couldn't understand and didn't control, we had summoned the star-god's power and though just a speck was used it rent two huge cities and left them as nothing, then shattered, then poisoned corpse piles. Rings of death where the innermost ring was just... nothing. Something that staggered human mind and sanity and left it with nothing to cling to, people whose flesh had merged with their clothes, people whose hands sloffed skin off like gloves, and still the poison ate even when the cinders were cold. When the flash came it melted men's eyes, causing the jelly to liquefy and run down their faces because they could not witness what they had seen without it taking a terrible toll.

But I suppose I'm describing the very concept of Cthulhu... and the affect of the A-Bomb on Japan and the world at large.

And since the world likes big monsters and monster movies were selling like hotcakes in America the "warning" of the nuclear menace was packaged as a giant monster. Kind of like Cthulhu.

Afterwards the message got cheapened into kiddie toys.

If you fail to understand something look deeper. You'll find Godzilla and Cthulhu are in many ways the same thing. A warning to humanity not to trespass outside our sphere of influence and to not call upon power we simply have no right to. Especially not to try and wield power we have no idea how to control. I'd wager that if Ishiro Honda had known of the Cthulhu franchise he would've used Cthulhu to carry out his warning and not created a giant radiation breathing dinosaur.
