Cthulhu as a fallen Angel/Seraph?
Well, it somewhat makes sense.

I love this depiction of Cthulhu. Looks more majestic then gross which makes sense on why people would willingly worship it.

Cthulhu isn't really a god. Well he is by most mortal standards but by many others he's a head priest toward a god

Yeah, it's ultimately the real reason why he's so terrifying...the thought that there are things out there even more massive and powerful than him.

I never felt him all that terrifying yes by some degrees scary as in he's a monster you can't do much about given your current circumstance. The primary prospect of what drove certain people mad at the time of his creation was simply that the universe is indifferent to humanity and that man isn't the center of the universe. Given the author's many bias and culture precautions; it was plain to see that the majority of cultural acceptance and thus atmosphere was that man was gods gift to earth.
Even giving a slight nudge to the idea that you're "Not all that special" and that there may be something (smarter stronger ect) better than you that cares as much for you as you do for stepping on ants was the full crux of existential crisis.

Buddhist and other eastern religions already had certain aspects akin to Cthulu; because they felt that the ego was illusion as well for the majority if not all of reality. Primarily Cthulu is for well Protestants or Puritans with rather specific old styled view points to be driven insane with fear over. Now those things still of course exist today and there are still plenty of people around you can easily terrify with that but its no where near as horrifying as it would be for someone whose very idea of being a human is to be the center of creation and anyone's else whose not of your X classification is a poor sinful heathen or savage. In other words find some narcissist or person who thinks his country is the best country or just a really ego driven society and send Cthulu at them because to them it means the savages are right and all the order of your culture or religion or x that you use to make sense out of the world is wrong and for some people they cannot handle that by an inch.

Very true. That is the general basis by which Lovecraftian Horror (or Cosmic Horror) stems. To somebody who views the world (and by extension the universe) through such a narrow scope the very concept of Cthulhu and the gods he himself worshipped is beyond frightening...which has given many people justification to claim that Lovecraft's work has not aged well over the last several decades, but I personally never found the creatures in Lovecraft's mythos as frightening as much as they are fascinating and strangely alluring.

Where others find the idea of anything being beyond mankind abhorrent, I find the very concept itself uplifting and awe-inspiring, and would gladly let myself go mad with whatever arcane knowledge they had to bestow...to take the line from "Bloodborne", "Grant Us Eyes!"

I'd be more cautious than you and seek the measures of runes through topological measures of the non-euclidean space of such maligned dimensions like the Caryll runes. I'd of course acclimate if not alter myself but only after some good experiments. I will open my own eye and see the aliens, gods, spirits, ect that swim upon the waters of oblivion that would most suit mine own measures. You must see them as deals some are quite happy to toss off whatever energies they hold others will only use you. So I'd be careful with anything like Cthulhu and see if one of the elder or greater ones would offer me something similar or better before taking any offer.
