The finished image: [link]I actually drew this picture using free-hand, which means that I don't use rulers or grids to actually guide me.
I only look at the reference and guess where they all sit on the piece of paper as I work through it. So I'm kind of proud of the accomplishment.
And as you can see, I'm messy with my WIPs.
Everything is all over the place.And I missed drawing traditional portraits for a while now. So I decided to draw Harry Potter from the Half Blood Prince movie that will be coming out here on the 21st of July!
Can't wait...
Materials used:
- A4 110gsm Canson sketch journal paper
- H, F, HB, 2B, 3B, 5B, 8B Derwent Graphite Soft pencils
- 0.5 HB, 0.7 2B Mechanical pencils
- Tissue and paper stump
- Kneaded eraser

How were you able to get Dumbledore in the glasses like that? Did you use an eraser to make the final outline?

No, not really. I just don't have the time.

Cool! It looks just like him! How do you make these graphite drawings without smearing? It's so hard for me! x(

Well what I do to prevent graphite pencils from smudging is by having a clean piece of paper underneath the hand that I hold the pencil with so that my skin doesn't smudge the picture when I draw.
But also, try not to have your hand and the piece of paper over the darkest areas as smudging can still happen. And yeah, it's not pretty when it happens.

Thanks. I was doing that thing with the paper and it works pretty good.
omg, I know. I'm working on this mylar paper for art and it smeared pretty bad on a lot of parts.

Don't worry. With pratice and being careful, smudging would barely happen.

something so far seems off with his nose, but I'm betting it's play of light. some areas do seem a lil "flat" though.
