Description This is the step by step of my drawing: The Wise One.

I wouldn't necessarily call this a tutorial, but more of how I usually draw my graphite pencil artworks. But at the same time, maybe it could be of some use to those who would like to know how I start off my artworks without much references, or to help those who already know how to draw, but to look at it from another angle.

It's all about sketching and planning out as you draw along. And that's what I did here.

If you have any questions on this step-by-step drawing, please don't hesitate to ask me.

I love your step by step. They are so easily to follow and the pictures you provided as so clear and clean. As well as the writing under the small images are easily to understand and don't leave any confusion about what you have/are going at that point. Nicely done by the way!

it's incredible !!! to see the magic in still-action sort of thing - how the magician creates the magic trick and yet I'll be always amazed at your end results - each time you do something even more incredible and prestigious than the time before !

wow, I'm just slapped to the ground by the amount of detail you get in there and the fact that it's done with mechanical pencils, which also cracks me up because they do rock with details.

I have a question tho, as it looks like you keep your images very clean, how do you do that? I always seem to goof somewhere and smear stuff and cry in anguish because of it, how do you keep your own hand from marring the image?

also, how large is this pic, as in inches? I'm not familiar with paper sizes yet, I only just recently got back into art so I'm still relearning stuff, geh so much to relearn and learn all together. But it's so fun and exciting and if I have artists like you to look up to for a goal to want to be like one of these days, then man I can't wait to spend more time working on my skills and learning new techniques and bettering myself!

Also, I saw how long this took, a week, was that like a few hours a day over a week or what? Seeing how long it took really made me realize that really good works take lots of time.....so I need to work on my patients wit my pieces and not rush them.

This is an amazing piece, I really honor yours skills and patients and attention to details, it really does bring a piece to life.

I definately agree. A few years ago, I had to do details by using the average pencil, and constantly sharpening them, so mechanical pencils came as a relief, as well as drawing more details than what a sharpened pencil can achieve.

How I keep my drawings from staying clean is by laying a clean piece of paper under my hand as I work above the artwork. This stops graphite from being smudged everywhere as I move my hand across the artwork. It works everytime.

The drawing was done on an A4 piece of paper, which is 8.3 x 11.7 inches. This is the standard universal size of paper as it used for printing and practically everything in the business world.

As for the time, a week was the average as I kept taking a lot of breaks throughout drawing this artwork. But I remembered that it just took me days, so I would say roughly a week. And yes, drawing details is very time consuming, but it's all worth it in the end. Patience is a major key.

And thank you!

It's amazing how you can describe it in a way that makes \"We-Who-Don't-Own-Your-Super-Powers\" believe we can draw like this too :'D <3<3

Really?

I believe anyone can draw, no matter where you sit at. It's all about practice, practice and more practice. We all start from somewhere in the beginning.

awesome! i can never do large art pieces i got tired of them quickly yes it is all about details that brings the picture out one question if you scan it in won't it smudge the scanner as well as the drawing itself? i've always wondered that...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jasqreate In reply to hellsangel13 [2009-10-27 11:19:33 +0000 UTC]

When you scan it, you always place it on that glass, and since glass is so smooth, the chances of smudging is almost impossible. It's just handling the picture into the scanner that makes it vunerable to smudging.

My scanner is not that big I'm afraid. But it's big enough to fit A4 size papers.
