Tried shading and such nots. I think I did well.
Also...Rider's updated armor. Does it look good? Or did I fail horribly?
I also spent way to long doing this.

I've said it befor and i will say it again - starlight rider is best force made alicorn , with the coolest backstory and rocking hair and the shiniest armour

No it goes on both sides. Its hard to explain...Its based off a helmet in the game World of Warcraft but its girled up so it doesnt look anything like it but the style is there.

Well, as a fan of armor, I love the design, and still resembling the show's style somewhat! (I myself, do armor based on old styles, because I am a sucker for scale armors, chainmails, etc.)
I mean, the only real thing she may be missing is a helmet, looking over the show stuff right now. Obviously, being her size, and power, she should worry about somepony getting a shot at her head, but then again, I am silly and notice these things (but no helmet works great too! As adding one tends to mess up manes.. and oh boy have I done that before!)
Anyway, just my input! Very lovely job, as usual

There is actually lore behind her armor.
She got into a great battle with her older sister who had resorted to using black magic. Rider had a full set of armor complete with helmet and full body coverage. But her sister cast a spell that caused her to be dispersed into star dust (Also the original result of her ethereal mane) after a few years Rider managed to break the spell and crashed down into a remote location in Equestria to be found by a wandering blacksmith. She was severely injured and her armor was trashed. Seeing her as a "god" the blacksmith tended to her wounds and healed her. As a gift he smelted down and reforged her armor and shaped up the usable pieces. It left Rider with what she has now.

Ahh very interesting! I certainly like the way it looks, and don't mean to be nitpicky on something silly like a helmet, it is just something I wanted to say. (Plus, despite the fact I hate draw Helmets, I like designing them in my head

Her helmet was destroyed. And after her mane took its current state she refused to wear one.
