I saw Star Trek and I got home wanting to create a space wallpaper. This is my first try doing a space image. Planets could use better texture and space could be better but I think it this final version is good. Everything done in Photoshop. Planets created using textures and adding effects. I used two nebulas [link] , [link] from NOAO/AURA/NSFWallpaper sizes:

Quattor from the Latin word for 4? Where did the name come from? is it just the 4 planets oris it deeper than that?

Yeah it's because the 4 planets. What I wanted to do when I created the wallpaper was a 4 planet system.

I have first used as wallpaper the one without the planets, but trying this one made me realize I prefer with them. Really great work. Seems you have done many before

Awesome. I'm with BBZ too, I like the planet-less version, but both are very well done. This will replace the OS X boring-space background it comes with quite nicely

kol, your the master of mood and atmosphere again. the nebula and stars are as good as in the best space pics i have seen around the net. the planets are gorgeous too, dont worry about the textures too much. if i had to find a single downside, its that the constelation of planets doesnt look 100% convincing. but thats not necessary at all, especialy if you make it up with the poetic mood that i talkede about up there. i like it a lot, and i hope you had fun doing it and we can see some more space art from you.

I did make one, but I have GIMP instead of photoshop, and I'm pretty newb with it. I couldn't figure out how to make a nebula...

In Photoshop you use the Clouds and Difference Clouds filters to make the nebulas. Also you can use nebula images and edit them.

Wow, each time we hear nothing from you you seem to surprise us with quality work (quality work as always). This is really something different then your previous wallpapers. Really shows you're a big artist

I like this alot, Even that It reminds me of Apple's OSX background for one of the older versions. (And i'm not Apple fan

Hahaha I started working on a dual display version but I ran out of ideas and didn't know what to add in the other half of the wallpaper. I didn't want to keep adding planets. For my next space wallpaper I'll do dual display.
