Description To bring some life back into our local miniature gaming group, we had a casual painting competition, which ended about one month ago. I had glorious expectations for the first miniature I started to convert and paint for the competition. Some problems occured and I had to pick a new one, so I chose one of the cannon crew dwarfs from the Warhammer: Battle for Skull Pass starting set.

I was a bit amazed when my dwarf, which had a simple and crude sculpt, actually won the competition. I should thank the basing I made and the harmonious color theme, I guess.

It was a little challenge to find twigs suitable for the tree I had in mind. I think it's nice, considering the fact that I haven't done trees like that before.

I'll make bigger bases for my showcase miniatures in the future, because that'll mean more space for the basing stuff. Oh, the possibilities...

I tried to keep the miniature's color theme unified by adding some brown paint almost to every mix of paints I used. That method never fails.

It's a shame for some people, who paint showcase miniatures, to think that bases don't need much attention. I have noticed that a good base can help the actual miniature tell a tale.

I 100% agree with you.

I'm painting some Blood Angels at the moment and once they are done Im gonna rebase them all.
Cool looking bases dont just look good, IMHO they are fun to do as well
