Description
Sad little Emo' American Pit Bull Terrier (see A.P.B.T, not "pit bull") .... Having to move away because people are afraid and don't like him, because they're ignorant and believe what they read in the papers.Awww... ;_;
One of several colored versions of this. Tan and white. I might modify it to make into a T-shirt graphic. There are other ones of other colored APBTs, but I'm not uploading them here.
Punish the Deed, not the Breed.

I've a pittie and he's the most lovable and loyalest dog that
I've ever known. I too was wary of the breed until Iggy came
into my life. I don't consider him as a pet. He's my best friend.

oh and again, I moved and now live with my boyfriend and i used to take my dog outside on a leash for walks so he can go potty, and someone had their pit bull outside OFF its leash and it RAN towards my dog showing its teeth and ready to make a meal out of him. I had to RUN inside with my dog, and now I just let my dog out on the porch and not outside anymore.

now in no way do I think pit bulls should be banned or are all bad etc etc. HOWEVER I also dont believe the "theres no bad dogs just bad owners" because my best friend has a pit bull and shes a sweet heart (both my best friend and the pit bull) and her pit bull and my min pin always got along, Id bring my dog over to her house, and shed bring her dog to mine. But then one day I brought my dog over there, placed him on the floor like I always do and IMMEDIATELY her pit pull locked her jaws around his little neck and shook him like a chew toy. My dog should have died that night. instead her got tubes through his neck and several stitches. we didnt do anything for her dog to snap, she JUST snapped. it happens. and its in their blood because PEOPLE bred them to be FIGHTERS. it is PEOPLES fault they are the way they are, but its also in their blood BECAUSE of people.

Pit Bulls aren't human aggressive, but a majority are dog aggressive. This is why they need EDUCATED owners who have done their research on the breed. People who do research understand that with their breed history, they should NEVER be trusted with other dogs (or animals at all). It is a genetic problem and something that will take a VERY long time to breed out. By the way, they don't lock jaws. That's a myth.

I know what you mean about the moving. My male was attacked by the old retriever named Bob across the street and my dog didn;t even try to fight back. and the chow down the street but my step dad.
But of course we had to move because we had the so called 'dangerous' dog....our dog mack will lick you to death**no lie(( and the female Jette will paw at you and lay on you until she gets enough petting and love **which she never does ** xD
And tonka, he's been sick since a puppy.....he's just getting fur back from having mange **which is common in APBT's becuase of their low immune systems **

awww...
I know, I live in kentucky at the moment, and the people in this one area here have outlawed pit bulls (know they aren't terriers, but still)
one of our renters in portland had a pit bull, and she was the sweetest thing ever. absolutely gorgeous dog.. it makes me sad to think that I couldn't take her over if he needed me to. (can you tell I really really love that dog?) she's very well mannered (aside from jumping and accidentally bowling into people when we're playing), no biting or anything like that. not very vocal either.
people are so stupid.
and this is happening because people are abusing these dogs and breaking them..
mark twain did say cincinnati was 20 years behind the times.. u.u

Yay pitbulls! I have one myself and I swear that Zoey is THE nicest dog on the planet! We'll pick on her all the time, and she still loves us. She don't got a mean bone in her body!
Even so, people still stare, whisper, and even shy away when we pass by. And if those kind of people weren't annoying enough, there's also the "stereotypical pitbull" enthusiasts. They inspect my dog as if she were a piece of meat. They say they "own 3 or so pits", but by their shifty appearance and ill "dog manners" (such as reaching for the dog's head palm down), I can tell that they know nothing about dogs.
While out walking Zoey, my mom and I came across two guys (highschool-ers maybe). One said that he had a pitbull and asked if he could pet ours. Reluctantly, we said yes, and I tightened me grip on her leash. Although she has never bitten anyone, I wasn't about to take any chances (She is a rather strong dog, after all).
This idiot leapt off the curb, and threw his hand (at shoulder hight, palm down) at her head. Now, this was enough to make me take a step back, and you can only guess what Zoey's reaction was:
She growled and lunged at him. He almost fell flat on his butt, but otherwise escaped unharmed.
I'm not quite sure what my expression was. Probably rather confused, but before either my mom or I could say anything, he started talking about how she could be "put away" or even destroyed if she'd bit him.
Pfft! He deserved to be bit! But he was right. Even if it was his fault.
People like him are the ones who should be put down, not the dogs.
Anyway . . . . . love the pic. I would absolutly buy a t-shirt with that on it, although I think that it would better define the message if "Punish the Deed, not the Breed" was printed on it. Sorry about my book of a comment, but you sparked an emotion and an opinion. In my mind, that's what art is all about, so keep it up!

Very good art! I am an animal lover too, and I own several dogs... Thank god they are safe currently. If anything ever happened to ANY of them, I know I'd take immediate action. We humans are incapable of realizing that the things that these animals are doing are dangerously close to our OWN actions. Humans kill other humans, and sometimes they even get off the hook w/o any punishment. Humans as a whole need to learn to accept the flaws of ourselves, and of other animals, and learn to work AROUND them instead of instantly out casting them. Politics get sooo tiresome -.-'. As to your earlier statement regarding outdoor cats, I fully agree. I keep my 2 cats inside, and other people should too. A person cannot be held responsible for something his dog did to a cat that happened to wander into it's yard during it's morning potty run... Keep your dang cats inside, particularly if they have been declawed... Best of luck to you!

They've been making a big deal about this in San Francisco lately since there was like 3 dog attacks in 3 weeks or something like that.
I've never actually met a pit before until about a month or two ago, and he was the cutest thing ever! He was still a puppy but I couldn't imagine him hurting anyone. It makes me sad that people hate pits or just dogs in general because of a few.
It disgusted me when I was being driven around by someone and they made no effort in not trying to hit a poor doggie just because it was a pit (my bf stopped her thankfully). People can be so narrow minded...
I think this would make a great tee-shirt.

Yeah. I know about those attacks.
Only reason why we even hear about it is because it sells papers and gets ppl to tune into the TV. For every 1 attack by a 'pit bull' like dog, I'm sure there are ten times the amount of bites and maulings by other breeds that most never get reported to animal control, nevermind the media.
I know of stories of other breeds that have seriously bitten people, and nothing ever is done about that animal. But holy crap, if it's a bite caused by anything that can be mistaken for a 'pit bull', it's all over the news for DAYS.... and the dog ALWAYS ends up dead.
I can't help but think that some 'victims' of dog attacks say they were bit by a 'pit bull' just to get some attention... and in truth it wasn't a pit at all..... (there was one inccidnet when a woman mauled stated it was a pit bull, and it turned out to be a Lab'!) Sad really.
Funny. I was mauled by a rott' cross when I was a toddler. And I was bitten badly by a Rotweiller while working as a Dog Groomer.... but I don't run around demanding all rot's and rot' crosses be banned or destroyed. I knew it happened because of errors made by the owners, not because the dogs were 'evil' in some way.... I wish more people were like me.

I agree with you. I really wish more people would realize the same thing, it being the owner's treatment of the animal, not some inbreed lust for attacking people out of the blue.
I respected the Humane Society in SF for trying to educate people about pits and dog behavior in general after the first couple of attacks ... At least they tried to ease people's fears.
I've been bitten a few times by dogs as well, nothing like what you've gone through, and I still love dogs and have no bad feelings towards them. It is a shame that more people don't look to those that have gone through such an experience and come out of it without hate towards their attackers and learn from them...

reminds me of the "woman" that tryed to get a law or something passed arouind here so anyone with a rotty or pit bull looking dog would have to pay a fine or something to keep them.all cause some dog, that i dont beleave anyone actually saw, mauled her cat or some stupid thing like that.thankfully she failed miserably...

I'm glad she failed. Hell, for all she knew another CAT ...or a raccoon mauled her animal. It happens more often than you think.
Heh... my question to her would be "What the hell are you doing keeping your cat outdoors in the first place?"... you don't want your cat to get eaten, keep it the hell inside! (I'd NEVER own an outdoor cat. All my cats are strictly indoors.)

In Denver Pit Bulls and all dogs that resemble pit bulls have been banned. If found they will be destroyed. It makes me so ill to read about things like this. We punish and disapprove of other speicies of animals but almost never stop to look at our own faults. Your picture really hit a nerve.

Yeah, I'm fully aware of the canine genocide occuring in Denver. It's also going on in many other places too, it's heartbreaking. And soon to include the Province in Canada where I reside.... Ontario. Thousands upon thousands of totally innocent animals are going to be murdered just for the way they look, not because they ever did, or will ever do anything wrong.
I'll never own a dog now until I move somewhere else... because I like the kinds of dogs I like are all being banned, or are under the threat of being added to the list of banned/restricted breeds (little known fact,BSL rarely stops with one breed of dog, it ALWAYS spreads to others in time). I like what I like for reasons I discovered through research, reading many books, talking to trainers, groomers, and canine behavioural experts... not because they're "badass" or "cool", or because the media has created false sense of fear in people pertaining to one type of animal, or group of animals.
BSL punishes law-abiding, tax-paying, responsible dog owners. Not criminals, and not the people who beat, abuse, breed for agression, or neglect their animals. THOSE people just move to another breed of dog and continue the cycle... Criminals don't change, just the breed they abuse. Politicians forget that. The only way to reduce inccidents of dog-on-human agression is through education, and strict non-breed-spesific Dangerous Dog Laws that punish baised on an individual dog's history, not media hype pertaining to it's breed.
Dogs are a reflection of the owner. Good dogs, have good owners. Reguardless of breed. Bad owners MAKE bad dogs. I just wish everybody ELSE could see that.

pinkie5567 In reply to jaxxblackfox [2005-08-23 03:18:29 +0000 UTC]
I had no idea it was spreading so quickly. It makes me wonder how many other laws or acts are made based on opinion and not fact. Here we are, human beings, creatures capable of taking steps on the moon or exploring the depths of the oceans and what do we use this amazing capacity for? Hatred of things we do not take the time to understand. Everything from a simple fear of spiders to loathing of another human being.
I remember when they put the ban on certain dog breeds in Denver. Many owners moved away when that happened. I don't think I can even imagine their frustration. If you do chose to move I wish you the best of luck.
Strict non-breed-spesific Dangerous Dog Laws? I think I know a couple of toy dogs that would be in trouble. None the less, that is a very good idea.
Hopefully, this trend of anger and mistrust will die out soon.
