Description
I might actually be happy with this one for once.Real Unicorn/Alicorn. Not a horse. I'll always prefer historical "Gothic" Medieval unicorns vs contemporary ones. Described as deer sized, goat-like with a lion's tail and mane. Bam.

I know that is appropriate , but it feels odd for it to not have any equine features in the face at all. Regardless, this is some amazing art!

I didn't add horse features because frankly, I don't enjoy drawing horses (I have drawn them that way for years in the past when I was young), and modern pop depictions of equine unicorns are literally everywhere. Drawing just another one of those doesn't expand people's imagination as to what a unicorn COULD be (or were actually described as before the 19th century)... and I like to have fun when I draw, not torture myself. lol

Oh my, I really love this!
I'm an absolute sucker for more 'traditional' unicorns and you did an absolutely gorgeous, breathtaking job here

Whoah! Once in a while you will see a semi-traditional, slightly-less-equine unicorn with cloven hooves, thinner legs, and the lionlike tail... but this is one is one of the very few I've seen with an actual non-horselike face, and the massively long horn sometimes seen in medieval tapestries!
Very cool!

Cool idea going with the authentic design. Where did you get this info about unicorns?

Reading a lot of books when I was a teenager for the most part, and later reading stuff online.

That background looks almost photo realistic in its soft blur - really makes this creature stand out beautifully! Though, perhaps gives the unintentional appearance of the Unicorn being tiny, maybe it's because it has a macro feel to the whole thing?
Love the sharp detailing on that fur <3

Fur can be tricky, I'm still not that good with it. But it helps a lot to use as much reference material as you can. I used a lot on this one, Mountain Goats and white/albino Deer in particular. Then it's about practice, and more practice.
My friend Vantid is a master at rendering fur. You should take a look at her stuff.Β www.deviantart.com/vantid

Given what I've read about them, it wouldn't be a good idea. lol

YES YES YES! Wonderful unicorn. I really do NOT like unicorns that are horses with a horn stuck on their head.

Fun fact: the original unicorn was described as a horned deer with elephant feet... it's a rhino!

Some artists renderings from the Medieval period do indeed look Rhino-like. Some also look like Ibex, and Gazelle. It could also be something that was held onto in some fashion through oral history from the times when the Woolly Rhino existed in Europe. Cave paintings of them sure do look like "unicorns".

It also lived in Eurasia, so it could have been described in Europe, or in India, where the original unicorn was described to be

Now i just have this image in my head of this unicorn being like the goats in those hilarious goat-compilation videos...the ones that scream, faint, spit, and/or flap their tongues around xD;

LOL! Though seeing a contemporary unicorn acting as dumb as horses do sometimes would be funny too.
