this is INCREADIBLE!
the movement of each part of the sculpture is fantastic and beautiful and the fact that the detailing is done over a period of MONTHS by carefully rusting the metal is absolutely breathtaking!
Its a fantastic piece and a well deserved DD

I'm guessing to build one of these you need to design it in 3d first and then laser CNC the individual panels before shaping them and welding them together. In which case unless it's been filled it probably goes bonk when you knock on it.

NoriMori [2012-09-15 16:07:37 +0000 UTC]

From this angle it looks like a pterodactyl. Or, expanding on DamselBirch, two pterodactyls hugging each other. Or wrestling. Or killing each other.

I thought of Charizard too, in fact that's why I scrolled through the comments to see if anyone else said the same

plzexplode In reply to Chromattix [2012-09-15 15:48:30 +0000 UTC]

its not too hard to see a pair of wings and a tail is it? It helps that the colour is spot on too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to plzexplode [2012-09-16 00:30:04 +0000 UTC]

Not to mention the first thing I saw was the head of it on the upper-left. Almost like it's turning its back on us in a cool dynamic pose. And yes, if it were any other colour I wouldn't have seen it

Wow, that's amazing! I thought it was wood for a second. The flow between the piece and the space is balanced out and candy for the eyes. Excellent job

Kelsee-F [2011-09-25 03:23:37 +0000 UTC]

This is gorgeous! I love the amount of movement you get from each piece. this must have taken ages to weld together... what did you use for the patina?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JayRoth In reply to Kelsee-F [2011-09-26 03:55:33 +0000 UTC]

It's just rusting. Started it with salt water. Corten rusts but doesn't disintegrate like regular steel. Took about a month and a half not counting design work and material shipments. Thanks for the kind words glad you enjoy it.

Kelsee-F In reply to JayRoth [2011-09-28 19:20:47 +0000 UTC]

thats awesome did you do it for a commission for a park or something? cause a piece like that needs to be in the public eye!
