Built in Titan Yards back in 2720, the Star League Ship Langley spent some years guarding Terra before being moved elsewhere, out to SLDF WarShip Repair and Experimental Refit yard #89, located deep in the Periphery. The M-5C spent the rest of the Star League's existence there, and the secret facility was abandoned when the League fell, the staff setting the SDS system in charge of the drones to aggressive defense and going to find their families. It was 51 years before anything of note happened, when drifting fragments of code, unchecked by repairs or major maintenance finally became...something else. SLS Langley gained self awareness, becoming a full Synthetic Intelligence. Still following it's core directives, the newborn SI reached out with it's inbuilt transmission arrays and Hyperpulse Generator, trying to contact the SLDF. When no reply came, the WarShip drone decided to jump out of system, beginning what would become a 318-year sojourn in an attempt to find it's lost masters. The Casper continued to follow it's directives, destroying pirates, slavers, and other criminals as it found them, seeking home. The path wasn't easy, as the M-5's hadn't been designed with long deployment in mind, and by the time the WarShip was deposited into The End by an anomaly in 3150, the hull was in terrible condition due to lack of proper repairs or maintenance--most of the external plating was damaged or destroyed, nearly half the vessel was open to vacuum, the missile launcher and autocannon ammunition was long depleted, only one of the four NPPC's still worked and scarcely half the Naval Lasers were still operational. Only four drone fighters remained in the hanger, and the starboard engine risked not reigniting if shut down (and in fact, failed shortly after arrival). Unsure of where it was, the drone ship deployed a pair of the fighters and began using the remaining sensors to search. The dilapidated vessel was soon hailed by the Imperial Navy, and though there was a little confusion initially, it was eventually understood by the Imperials that the ship ahead of them was AI run and in search of the Star League. With clearance from Pieldri and Benji, the two Imperial Voidships guided the old battlecruiser to the Imperial shipyards, Langley tying off to an island with the assistance of the onboard repair drones. The old WarShip had been desperately denuding itself for centuries that just one more hyperspace jump, one more explored system, and it would find it's long lost masters, and was heartbroken to finally see the plain, cold facts that it had been denying for so long. Langley sat in mourning for over a month, grieving the SLDF and trying to figure out what to do next. Eventually, a decision was made, and the battlecruiser offered it's service to the Ender Empire, a new nation he could apply his purpose of protection and service to. It took two months, but the SLS Langley was eventually repaired and rearmed in dock, retaining the old SLDF prefix and paint scheme to honor it's fallen masters. Also around this time, the Langley took on a male persona to make talking to organics easier, as the SI had noticed that most who talked to it were tripping over how exactly to refer to it, dropping the genderless voice and beginning to use a soft male tone while taking on he/him pronouns as a convenience to the crews. "His" most oft-used virtual avatar is the body of an old SLDF flag officer, one Admiral Fredrick Laske. In light of his sapience, Empress Pieldri decreed the vessel to be part of the navy, and the SI to be the ship's Commanding Officer who earns his own pay. The Langley serves the empire faithfully, and found a true joy in 3162--Lloyd and Jielong's kids were introduced to him, and the SI fell in love with them when little Yu Yan walked up to one of his repair drones and called it "Pookey Bear". The old battlecruiser has since become an honorary uncle to the kids (Yu Yan calls him "Unca Langy"), and is ferociously protective of them. Nobody wants to be on the wrong end of an orbit-to-surface autocannon barrage, so even the most bigoted beings that have a sense of self-preservation dare not bother the siblings.
