Update: I realize what a terrible job I did with this. I still want a big belly C-21 Dragon style LAAT/I and I have a MUCH clearer design concept this time. The main issue with THIS was I was all over the place with my design concept. Now I am much clearer and I hope to be able to commission this.

A new ship I’ve commissioned from two of my favourite artists on DA.

basically I asked for a combination of the C-21 Dragon from Avatar and the LAAT/I from Star Wars. this is not the final version as that will be a fully rendered 3D model by Karak so look forward to it!

edit: there will be a non combat version as well swapping out the weapons and armor for various equipment pods (like Thunderbird 2) or insane heavy lift capacity.

anyways here is the lore (so far):

Behold the ATLAS (Assault Tactical Lift and Arsenal Ship) 1 aka Star Dragon Assault Ship. So called because depending on its MASSIVE payload it can carry out 3 main roles: in addition to numerous defense turrets that are also perfect for sweeping clean landing zones, it has two large internal bays that can be fitted for troop/supply bays or as ordinance bays carrying anything up to super heavy anti-ship missiles that each take up an entire bay each (think along the lines of an ICBM class missiles here) in addition the centre line has a dedicated hard point for a large gun pod in the capital grade weapon class. It can pack a full sized turbo laser, Coilgun or superheavy rotary cannon. The top side hatches are VLS systems that can launch missiles or drones from behind cover if needed.
Heavy Assault Gunship, Heavy Bomber (when armed exclusively with bombs or missiles) or Artillery Platform (each internal bay can carry to more of those big guns I mentioned and they pop out in use). It can also be used in simple ultra heavy lift or as a rescue craft armed with numerous fire suppression dispensers with a number of search lights and hardPoints equipped with rescue equipment and carrying emergency responders and a small field hospital.

I imagine it’s origin is as a project that didn’t have a strong design brief and one of the R&D team was a total nerd of fictional aircraft (EG ME LOL) who wanted to make a ludicrous super heavy Gunship like the C-21 Dragon and it ended up almost failing due to a lack of clear direction. But an outsider saw the potential use of such a versatile design (Eg the artist) and helped organize it into a cohesive concept. The military procurement was at first very skeptical and almost didn’t accept it but the Thunderhead Colonization Fleet needed a new type of mult-role heavy lift craft that could take care of itself and do whatever was needed when it was needed. So it got authorized in a very strict trial basis. The massive ship displayed is terrifying payload in the first demonstration and more importantly the sheer versatility of that amount of capacity. It was shown carrying a variety of payloads including heavy cannons, troops, supplies and even firefighting and rescue equipment enabling it to serve in non military and rescue roles as well. It can also serve as a heavy lift carrier fro any number of auxiliary tasks replacing all its hard points and internal payload potentially with a massive underslung cargo sledge.

Think the Zillo Beast that took 4 LAAT/c to lift. This thing can do that job on its own in it's heavy cargo configuration.

yes at this point i am interested in the fully modular version. you would put it together at the factory in the version you want but almost anything that's no the basic frame cockpit propulsion and power-plant can be swapped out for various packages. so there is a assault gunship version (the one above), dedicated bomber (simple payload swap), a flying artillery battery with 3 big cannons replacing the drop bays and most hardpoints. the civilian version would remove most weapons aside form some defence turrets and replace them. So there is a Dedicated Rescue Version (basically Thunderbird 2) that has a ton of relief supplies, mobile field hospital and fire suppression systems searchlights and grapple launchers replacing the turrets. then a specialized Firefighter version that has two powerful fire suppression cannons and the wings are loaded with Fire retardant Bombs and missiles that can be dropped or fired into a fire. the drop bays carry fire troopers for rescuing people and getting closer to the fire. and of course there is a simple super heavy lift version that removes everything and devotes all power to hauling extremely heavy loads. this would also be a tow truck/tug.
