I think fandom is just an absurd thing. I see so much "fanart" it's ridiculous. I'm not sure how people can see the majority of it as art. There are pieces of fan art that I can appreciate, but it's talented work that merely shows appreciation. Like, for instance: [link] or [link]Everything outside the realm of that kind of thing is just absurd.
Draw all your little fandom pieces all you want, but this stamp is for anybody who feels that it goes beyond anything worth of being considered art.

Fandoms to me are something of an amusement, mockery even. I don't really take it seriously, as much as it may seem. I love making fun of fandoms or people who troll and bitch about it.
Most of the fanart is crappy, but there's definitely gems out there. And it's something we fantards use to develop ourselves... anything can inspire someone, including a book, anime, cartoon, manga etc. We all have to start somewhere. It's a fact of life that people will draw disgusting little craploads that people consider art of their favorite "Sasuke" or "Naruto" characters or whatever they love so much. I don't follow much of the anime out there, only a select few.

Totally agree! I really hate when people get so obsessed with something and only draw fanart of a show,videogame,band,etc and buy a lot of shit of that, only talk about it,etc and then they have a new obbsesion and totally forgot about the other fandom xD c`mon that stupid I like alot of things but Im not obsessed and I prefer draw my original character( I luv my characters) than fanart

I don't consider people with reasonable appreciations for certain styles of art or shows/media to be part of fandom. I pretty much agree with ED's obsession of fandom. Especially yaoi and yuri. I mean, we don't need to see characters of a particular manga or anime drawn in provocative and pornographic situations. That's taking someone's love for something and twisting it into something terrible. I doesn't seem like you would fall into that category.

I agree with this stamp to no end... But I also think Fandom hurts a lot of artist who don't specialize in fanart but do have one or two pieces up.
Like, I've this one piece in my gallery I did for shits and giggles of a stupid little Jareth pixel from Labrynth, and now it's the most popular piece in my gallery... It's not even that bloody good! I've evolved so much as an artist since then but everyone's so stuck on the fucking piece that I can't get any Labrynth/ Bowie fan glancing at my gallery to see beyond that.
I think about deleting it, but then there's that once in a blue moon occurance where someone who favourited it comes back and looks at my other crap.

Most of us seem to start off that way.
It's almost like a trend, some of us go through that phase where we become addicted to certain things and our whole life and soul is based off of something. A few managed to crawl out and pursue more original ideas.
I admit fans act crazy (it's called crack), I even act like that at some points and find it enjoyable. I still think Fanart is art. Art comes in many forms, it just depends on who the interpreter is.
But what's really ironic is the fact that fandom is EVERYWHERE. A fan is just another name for a supporter; so there are a lot of different types of fans. That also includes fandom. Whatever you support, your part of the crowd. Can't say much.

I enjoy fandom... it's fun. But that's all it is to me, just something to do for fun. There are people out there who take it WAY too seriously, and I agree... it's lol. Especially fandom drama... people get really worked about the stupidest things, especially in anime fandom. "Oh no my favorite anime is being dubbed in English! Now more people will watch it! I can't be a special and unique snowflake any more ;~; And it will suck because English voice actors are always bad and Japan is superior to America in every way!!11" (I like anime, but god I hate the fandom)
I draw a lot more original art now, but I used to draw almost exclusively fanart, and I had a really hard time justifying it to myself. Certain kinds of fanart could be considered a tribute to the original creator, but when you're drawing their characters in massive gay orgies with spooge flying everywhere (I drew tamer slash than that, but still, that IS what some people draw)... it's... kind of hard to justify it as "art." I don't really think there's anything wrong with drawing porn (though when you're using someone else's characters without their permission, it's... questionable), but I wish people would admit that they're just drawing wank material instead of trying to say that it's a valid art form.

nah, i agree. well i started out as a fan. that's where i learned a lot about drawing, especially manga, cartoons, comics and such. But I think it was more of a love for anime, rather than being all ecstatic and trendy for the sake of pissing everyone off. I'm still a big fan of anime, especially the artistic substance and how these writers and directors put so much emphasis on the smaller things in life and portray them in anime, something which western comics lack.
Anyway, there are few things more irritating than Naruto fan girls and their obsessive overindulged bad language-using retardedness. Again it's just a form of attention seeking... They're probably all lesbian.(or they are just saying they are)

I can't be obsessed with anime. I do love anime, but I have problems remembering things about tv shows and movies. I couldn't tell you the names of all the characters on my favorite anime unless I just watched it.

I don't mean the low quality of work. Quite honestly, I don't adore most of my work, and I cannot draw to save my life. That's not really the point of this stamp, though. It's not so much for people needing to be talented to show appreciation, it's all of the crappy drawings of two anime characters in gay bondage and stuff like that. Fan art is one thing, fandom is another.
I think I've ranted about that at one point. I think I might have lost that rant when my sites lost their hosting a couple of times back. I'll have to write a new one as soon as I am not being lazy.
