Here, we throw in Gundam1701's bridge graphic for enhanced color demonstration goodness.Β

Note: Probably should opt for a lighter gray for the duty station flooring as seen above. The previous tone was a bit too dark and would probably reek havoc on lighting hah.

The ship outline looks like a Midway-class ship (a post-TOS version of the Constillation

My eyes tell me that's a pseudo-Constellation Class, but I get ya.

It is the Constellation-class.Β  It was traced off of the actual ship's diagram profile.

I can imagine it being given your treatment

Would this cover the inset with the border around it?Β  All of the bridge stations are set into these bordered shapes, on mine it's all rounded rectangles, and are set-apart from the rest of the bridge. Would the inset be darker or just match the bridge walls?

The console control surface insets (If I read ya correctly) are the semi-gloss black you see there in the drawing above. The surface surround each of those weird shapes and rectangles are the charcoal grey.

Ok, I figured this woudl be easier. Did a REALLY quick mock up.

Made the base pit, walls, etc, match your color palette. Β

Ignore the console overlap. I can fix that later.

On the left wall console we have just the bare bones, console, monitors, wall. Middle console has the added wall detailing from the TMP set, but I matched all the colors to your palette with the inset matching the walls. Far right console I made that wall detailing have darker colors from the wall like what we see in the films. That was more what I was referring to as an 'inset'.Β

That looks great! This is very much a logical extension of TOS aesthetics.

Just playing around so far. Β  Which way would you go with that then? No detail, detail but color matched, detail but with darker center?

The detail with darker shade inset really makes the consoles pop out. Let's run with that.

Also, the steps leading down to the well level can be the same shade of grey as the duty station level.

I was looking at some behind the scenes, and I don't know if they just hadn't applied them yet, or if the original TV Phase II look didn't include them, but the screens were originally just set in the walls with the hoods and no detailing was present.

Yes, they opted for creating an effect of consoles as 'living' extensions of the bulkheads themselves. I do feel your inset detail will have the preferred effect. IN this way, the Phase II project is not mirroring TMP as closely as it would otherwise as I really do feel that what we see next in 2273 is an upgraded extension of what we were already familiar with, thus the TOS-flavored color schemes.

What about the bridge wall though? Or is that covered under cowling, bulkheads, panels, etc?Β Β

JBogguess In reply to ashleytinger [2019-05-20 18:36:22 +0000 UTC]

The Bridge walls are also referred to as bulkheads. The overheads i.e ceilings are also the light grey there. Referring to most TOS bridge photos, you notice the light grey wash on all bulkheads and overheads. The light grey spills over onto the console cowlings. I am still searching for some images for reference.

*shrugs* nah it's all good. I honestly hadn't thought of mixing it up a bit. Closest I thought about going was emulating some of the patterns we saw color wise on Reliant versus the greys of the Enterprise.Β
