Description Heroic Rescue

OC DiD Rescue pic; Pencil & Paper.

=> The Marshal knew they were short on time, as more would be coming. There was always more - they never gave up. But there was enough time to experience one of the few joys on the battlefield other than a good clean slice through an FMP 'bot, even as the cleanup after the offensive and the frantic activities of rescuing captives and gathering weapons, ammo, and technology surrounded her.

She knelt behind the maidified ex-captive. Her control chip deactivated and safely removed, the gal sobbed uncontrollably as Braidy pulled her closer. The young woman's foggy and barely memorable feeling of her own free will was starting to return. Once ungagged and freed from her bonds and changed into different clothing, it was a foregone conclusion that she would show no bodily harm...but the real harm was in her mind and knowing all too well what humiliation and submission she had been subjected to for who knows how long. She would need time; perhaps a lot of time, but her life was once again her own.

Marshall spoke softly as the girl leaned back fully against the armor, tears still streaming down her face: "Remember this feeling for as long as you live. Keep this close to you at all times. Retain who you are, and never forget the fate that you have escaped. Remember that this is the taste of freedom." <=

You just can't find a better DiD universe, IMHO, than that of the ongoing dastardly maidification objectives of the FMP (French Maid Planet) Roboverlords, courtesy of

Now I rarely draw OC's, and it has been a while, but being on the road and listening to the radio 3 days a week, I kept hearing the news read to me in the middle of the day from a local female radio newscaster with the last name of "Brady". And that name kept working on my imagination, until I came up with a suitable idea for Marshal Marshall Braidy, the freedom fighter (and ex-maid escapee from FMP) of AMAZON, the organized militia of ladies against the monolithic FMP.

Also, I rarely draw the rescue. In fact, I have only done so once before, near the very beginning of my dA hobby. But this idea was too good to pass up.

Full disclosure:

Marshal Marshall Braidy: This intelligent, cunning OC that bears a passing resemblance to a certain 1970's teen idol was a challenge. I very rarely draw in a non-cartoon or non-anime style, but I had to this time to try and get a look close to NOMAD's various conceptions and to western realism. Plus, his sense of tech drawing is so inventive, clean, and detailed to the extreme, that drawing her armored suit was difficult as well. Gotta love the "motorsword" or chain-sword weapon she uses that is pictured here attached to her back!!! I had a reference for the pose, and I relied heavily on NOMAD's material for the rest, including the tech. I also had a Braidy reference for the space helmet from another dA user, Naturally the metal suit hides not only her muscled yet womanly figure, as well as the remains of her still-unremoveable french maid symbiotic outfit, but the scenario demanded her to be armored.

Unidentified NoMAID ex-captive: The french maid costume is essentially even or a close second for my all time favorite sexy women's costumes ever. EVER. So I relished the challenge. I also, as most of you know, am not a fan really of 100% normally inescapable restraints, such as the auto tape used here that NOMAD and FMP is so fond of. But I really like in this scenario how well it works. I did want to go with a girl with longer hair than your normal run of the mill french maid bun or pinned up style, and of course drawing the high heels from any perspective is always tough. As for her identity, although I did have references, it really doesn't matter, now does it?

Scene: I plan on arranging this work in color just like a NOMAD work, where a big blow up of the same image is the background, with perhaps a closeup of each face in each of the top corners. I don't know how he and others do that yet, but I will figure it out later. Thus, a few complimentary items in the foreground to reinforce the scenario is all I needed, and the background is BLANK for the first time in a while for me. And yes, apparently drawing BIG characters on paper is helping me regain my art style a lot better than the incredibly difficult task of drawing small characters as in my last posted work.

Scenario: In this circumstance, I kept coming back to the idea of a captive, finally knowing and realizing freedom for the first time in a "while", and how the emotional toll would just explode into bawling happiness, and at the same time show a side of Braidy (that may or may not even be part of her character - this is a big liberty I am taking here) that is compassionate, almost motherly, to liberating those from a subservient fate the she had the joy of absconding from herself (though her escape was by her own hand in a totally badass way). Also, it is only fair to point out that another of NOMAD's works also depicts a rescue, albeit one of a different demeanor, and that picture was the main inspiration/reference for all of this.

Does it work? Does the art work? Let me know, and don't skimp on the comments/questions! But do keep in mind I will color this at a later date for full impact. And don't forget to check out the entire FMP/AMAZON universe, for which many dA artists have thrown their hat into the ring.

Thank you for the comment!

I can recall thinking while driving of this scenario repeatedly, and now that the sketching is complete, I am still reminded of it. I guess this one won't be complete until I color it NOMAD style.

I am hoping once I do so that perhaps some may confuse this for an actual NOMAD work...I can think of no better way too pay homage to him and his art.

So stay alert in the future and you will see this one again, and (hopefully) improved upon

The layout is very effective and communicates the scene clearly. The rescued captive is also very well done. I had a little problem with Brady's head. The angle of the hairline seems at odds with the angle of the face, making it seem out of proportion. Also her right arm doesn't look quite right. You probably threw off the perspective with the way you drew the bands on her armor. Still, this is a very nice picture.

Perspectively speaking, Braidy's nose and mouth could be moved a little to help maintain the viewpoint of her head being slightly tilted to one side, and looking a little downward, as if she is trying to see the ex-maid's face. But I got the facial expression I wanted after a few attempts, and didn't want to re-draw and get something that was placed a bit better, but less satisfying feature.

As for the arm, I know now what I did after looking at it...fixing the inner bicep line of her arms should take care of it...I may have gotten too carried away with the curved lines of the armor and the horizontal ones as well.

Thanks LOZ! I certainly do a lot better with large scaled subject rather than small ones in far away viewpoints. But I will continue to work on both!

"I am Nomad, and I approve of this drawing."

In all seriousness, this drawing and the corresponding commentary presents a delightful exploration of the FMP verse, and a nice insight into the character of Marshal Marshall Braidy.

Naturally I always envisioned her as being merciless to her enemies, and compassionate to her comrades and troops, but this show of maternal tenderness to a liberated soul is just brilliant.

Having been exactly where the maidified are, Braidy would know that those tormented and dominated women would desire a chance to free their long shackled feelings as well as their long fettered limbs--providing the women with a release, even as they are being physically released.

Wonderful.

The woman crying is a nice touch as well. I really emphasizes the stress of enduring FMP's incessant subjugation. Plus, I confess, it's also really, really sweet and cute.

I agree, that the girl's identity is almost superfluous to the image, (Although she does look a lot like Beldandy. ) in fact, her anonymity may even add to the general atmosphere of the picture, as her savior finds her having been stripped of personal identity for so long a time.

Nice picture, good emotional beat, terrific characterization of our heroine.

Lastly, I appreciate that the damsel is still bound up. I know its only for the moment, before shes cut free, but for the moment, she looks real cute.

Well done.

Marshall Marshal Braidy is the name of the rescuer and she's your OC? You have a veritable wall o' text there, and i'm tired and lazy, so i hope i'm getting that right.

Since you asked, here's my (a veritable nobody's) garrulous response:

There's a distinct contrast between the "anime-ish" captive (less detailed nose, more angular face, etc) and the anime/western mix of the rescuer (Marshal Braidy?). I like this contrast - it gives it a unique look. The rescuer's armor's very detailed and bulky... i don't know how well this works, though.

I have more, but i don't want to write an essay here. Overall, good work. Would be better in colour, imo, if only because colour brings a sort of "order" to a picture with this much detail.

That's my $0.02 (tax exempt).

Actually, Braidy is my OC.

This drawing was done with my permission, and my wholehearted appreciation, particularly after viewing the delightful result.

I know the commentary is long, but you might want to take a moment to read it over. I find it to be very entertaining. I think you might enjoy it.

Actually, I have to correct you: Marshall Marshal Braidy, and the FMP universe all belongs to

I am sorry if my explanation above wasn't clear, as I wrote it all at the wee hours of the morning.

I appreciate your feedback! And yes, a color version of this will surface some time in the future. I can't let this escape that, as I still have much to learn.

My mistake. Still good work, though. If you don't usually do OC's, what made you change your mind? Just the name, due to the newscaster of your anecdote?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JC-DiD In reply to TMason [2010-11-21 04:23:17 +0000 UTC]

Well yes, the newscaster with the last name, upon hearing multiple newscasts on the radio 3 times a week, for about a month, forced my hand - I HAD to do a pic.

However, I think it was high time I showed something POSITIVE coming from my affinity for cute/sexy gals tied up. I hope the emotion in this one conveys a better message than the usual "OMG I gotta get loose before the bomb explodes!" that I do a bit too much of.

Not so good with art critique details, but from a characterization and composition POV, I think this is just perfect. I've always gotten the impression of Marshall Braidy being "A Mother to Her Women" ( [link] ), and, well, FMP has always struck me as a merciless tyranny. A SEXY merciless tyranny, sure, but there you go. So great work.
