My first Sonic fan character eveeeeer! Grind is an actual gear, and can climb up walls and even ceilings spider ball style! I even made a story around him for a potential game.

Grind is an ancient steampunk robot created hundreds of years ago. He was part of an entire line of steampunk inspired machinery on an island called Remote Island. Years passed and the island became abandoned and forgotten. Skip to hundreds of years later, Dr. Robotnik finds Remote Island in attempt to use the ancient technology for evil. Sonic and Tails eventually follow in pursuit. Grind awakens from laying around becoming rusted and goes to see who has invaded the island. Grind is like the guardian of Remote Island, thus he sometimes gets in Sonic or Robotnik's way.
A bunch of steampunk inspired Zones and 7 Chaos Emeralds later, Robotnik is on the brink of completing a giant, Death Egg Robot looking Robot made from the scraps of the ancient technology. The only problem is that he needs one more part that has the secret source of anergy. Turns out that Grind is the final piece Robotnik needs! The blue core in his body has the secret energy! Robotnik captures Grind, forces him into his gear form, and uses him to power his machine. After Sonic defeats Robotnik, he frees Grind and Robotnik is sent flying. Trusting Sonic now, Grind is thankful and bids him and Tails farewell as they leave the island.

This story is still just a rough draft, so it might seem a little bare with a few holes. But hopefully you get the gist of things!
Any Sonic fan characters I make at this point will be robots like badniks. I like to stand out from the crowd, especially in this sense..>__>
