Materials and Methods
Nikon D80 + 50mm F1.8 Nikkor + IR remote + 2 second timer so I could use both hands. Dark brown fabric hung in the background with tape. 88 shots to get the composition right. Black eye liner to draw the eyes and smile. It's been awhile since I last drew on myself for a photo; I forgot how hard drawing on uneven surfaces with my non-dominant hand was
GIMP for post editing. Grunge detail extraction protocol. More curves to tweak contrast and colors. Additional Comments

At first glimpse, it gives you a joyful feeling, but like the whole thing says, it's just a mask. You have to know the person thoroughly, to understand waht's behind the mask. Just like in the Phanthom of the Opera/Oprah.

I'm not sure what you're referring to exactly, but to color edit this photo I used curves. Generally decreasing red midtones in curves will give a blue hue to the photo. Or you can try doing an inverted S curve in the red channel using curves. If you're referring to the blue shadows on my collar and neck, that's also due to lighting.
