Description
the sun will rise-----
Nikon D80 + Tamron 90mm F2.8. Not really sunrise; a few hours past sunrise really. 8am. My roommate was still asleep and I didn't want to do any particularly loud activities. So I took photos.
The bottom of a dandelion seed was taped onto a square vase to help hold it in place and straight. An ordinary straw with used to add the waterdrop. The waterdrop ended up touching some of the dandelion's pappus hairs, making them cohesive to the waterdrop thus deforming the waterdrop. So I had to tweeze away these wet pappus hairs to make the waterdrop look round again. Minor curve editing in GIMP to darken midtones.
Yes there is some glare due to the sunlight. I'm not sure why the pappus hairs seem to make rainbows

Another one of those cliche shots I just had to try. A previous practice shot is on my FB: [link]

I love that you related the effect to diffraction gratings.

delicate beauty. a new life form. A fragile drop of water the strongest structure in the composition. Wonderful vision

I love it! Simple yet beautiful for it, and the colours, no matter how they came to be, are wonderful.
Thanks, too, for taking the time to explain how you came up with the shot. It's appreciated.

Whatever the reason, it looks awesome when the colors shine like that. The background is just the right color to make the effect really stand out.
Nice job!
