Hey...I have that palette!
I get funny looks from people when I freak out over throwing away an empty yogurt container or peanut butter jar.
Water...need lots and lots of water holders! ( erm...my medium is watercolor...and there is not enough water in this world for a watercolorist.)
One thing seems odd...it seems dark in your work area..probably just the photo.
My studio is much darker than I would like but I have one of those daylight lamps. I live in fear of them discontinuing fabrication of the bulbs.
Anyways thanks for sharing...and it was nice reading that I'm not the only one who is always dropping/spilling things.

Jeff1966 In reply to kmaier99 [2007-07-09 10:43:07 +0000 UTC]

LOL Thanks. Yeah, it's not as dark here in my studio as it looks in the picture. I use flood lights.

I seem to prefer them most of the time. But, I've had times when colors weren't working right, and I'll look at the painting under florescent lights. Sometimes, the color problem will stick out in such a way, that I'll know how to fix it.

To be truthfull, this is after some hours of work. But still, ready to so some more.

StephanusEmbricanus In reply to Jeff1966 [2007-06-21 07:24:44 +0000 UTC]

After some hours of work? It would look like a mess and I should have to clean it for one hour. So you are working rather properly?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jeff1966 In reply to StephanusEmbricanus [2007-06-21 22:40:39 +0000 UTC]

Hahahahaha Yeah, I guess I am. I work in a paint store as well as painting artistically, so I guess I have developed habits that keep things rather clean.

LOVE the painter's stick. ...did you make it? I think I use a classy boken broom stick.

I painted a hamburger, and ate it.

Thanks Karl. Yep, that's my homemade maul stick. A dowel stick and a cabinet knob.

That's got a real 70s feel Jeff. Maybe the colours. It made me think of "Paint Along With Nancy". I like the recycling I can see going on.

I think each artist should have a picture of their creative area. I use Sasha's old bedroom and it has carpet *yikes*. I have an old Twister game plastic that I lay on the floor to catch drips. That works somewhat. Hey, I am going to be going to Lowe's in the next week or so to get stuff to screen in our back porch and build a deck and am going to pick up some masonite. I know you told me once before but what thickness and grade do you suggest again? Also, you work at Leonard's, right? I will be stopping by there for some acrylic primer too.

kmaier99 In reply to kzeor [2007-07-09 03:39:38 +0000 UTC]

A cheap shower curtain liner works well too. My husband picks up heavy clear ones and I have them taped to the floor in my studio and I put them on the table for my kids when we are doing something especially messy, like shaving cream and glue sculptures.
And they cost a dollar. I made sure to cover everything when I knocked an full bottle of india ink off my drawing table...yep...only need to do that once.

kzeor In reply to kmaier99 [2007-07-09 04:47:30 +0000 UTC]

I should do that. I think the rug has a lot of make up stains on it and paint already in small spots. I wish I would have put wood floors throughout the entire house.

Jeff1966 In reply to kzeor [2007-06-19 18:30:27 +0000 UTC]

This old carpet in our house has seen better days. I don't care what I spill on it anymore. Any damage I do is far less that what the dogs have done to it. Hahahaha

Yep, I'm still at Leonard's.

1/4" Masonite is the best, especially if you work on anything bigger than about 12"x12". That 1/8" stuff is a little too flimsy for me. I'll be looking for you at the store.

ArtOfTheMystic In reply to Jeff1966 [2007-06-20 22:22:05 +0000 UTC]

Hope you guys are sanding the masonite before applying gesso. Had bad experience with stuff just flaking off the treated surface, particularly acrylic based paints.
Another tip: paint a large gesso X on the back from corners to corners, then the board won't warp when you paint on it.
Cheers
Otto.

Jeff1966 In reply to ArtOfTheMystic [2007-06-20 22:28:45 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I looked. I didn't say it in this conversation, but I told someone somewhere to sand it. Hahahaha

Thanks again Otto.

Jeff1966 In reply to ArtOfTheMystic [2007-06-20 22:26:02 +0000 UTC]

I'll have to go back and check. I thought I told them to sand the masonite to break the glaze. Hummmm.....An X on the back, didn't know that one. Thanks Otto, I'll give it a shot.

kzeor In reply to Jeff1966 [2007-06-19 19:06:47 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I thought that is what you suggested. I guess your dogs have done the damage that our cats have done. Our furniture and door framing has seen better days.

Yes, I cannot wait to get started on some actual large paintings. Summer seems not real so far because I am not working on something like that.

My favorite part of this is the stack of plates behind everything.

It kind of implies how much work will be done. Like you really are about to paint non-stop for days.

I dig it.
