Description This is fan art for the new Disney movie, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice".

I found out that the Merlin's Circle that Nicolas Cage's character makes, actually has a meaning to all the symbols.

Once I added the glow in photoshop, I decided it needed something more magical, so I added a little bit of photoshop effects around the edge to show off a little bit of the magic of each symbol.

It only took a couple hours to do, just did it for a little fun.

EDIT (9/3/2010): The time symbol is actually a circle within a circle, so I fixed it.

What was the circle based on because it reminds me of the alchemic circle

I think a lot of the symbols were made up for the movie. But it looks like Mind is the symbol for Tin/Jupiter and Motion is the symbol for Mercury. The Time symbol looks like two moon in a sun, which seems fitting.

Thanks. There is a page in the Book "The Answer is Yes" by Michael Singer. And it shows a part of the book of spells that we don't get to see in the movies.

Hello guys... Thank you for the symbol, Jeffrey, and also for the information you've posted about the book and everything else.
As a return gift, I'm from Brazil and want to give you a single word. If you have the opportunity to meet the meaning of that word, I think you gonna see a little bit more of what is magic.

Ayahuasca.

Good luck and thank you!
Daniel

so merlin's circle is actually real? like is not made up just for the movie?
where did u find those infos can u link me?

Jeffrey-Scott In reply to thevampiredio [2010-10-03 05:43:23 +0000 UTC]

In the Book "The Answer is Yes" by Michael Singer, it says the symbol as a whole is based on Ancient symbols from many cultures. But they named it "Merlin's Circle" so audiences would know it is a powerful symbol for good... So in a way it is all made up for the movie. (I wish it was real though, it would be nice to learn a bit of magic )

thevampiredio In reply to Jeffrey-Scott [2010-10-04 01:57:58 +0000 UTC]

ah too bad. it would be awesome if it was real. cos i was planing on designing some magic symbols for a tattoo and one of the merlin's circle symbols was in the design.

The seven domains in the Merlin Circle include Space-Time, Motion, Matter, Elements, Transformation, Mind, and in the center, the Forbidden domain-Love. The multi-colored flames that shoot out of the Merlin Circle in the underground lab were created by the special effects team like a gigantic stove-top burner, with fire rods six inches below the deck in a water tank.

Yes, I would have put Space-Time instead of just time, but I thought that would take the ancient magical feel away from it. I also could not include the Love title for the center symbol just because there was no space for the word in the middle.
