EDIT: 19/04/14 - removed the background. Wasn't happy with it.
...A little quote from Lara herself in the 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider. She's my platinum girl as I just managed to get my first platinum trophy for this game on my PS4.
Anyway, nerd stuff aside, this has taken me days to complete, as I have been playing with my own style and trying out a new colouring technique: basically going way out of my comfort zone, and I'm really glad I did. I've spent a lot of time on the details which I've realised that although time-consuming, it's something I'm quite good at. I've also learnt to not be afraid of my brush strokes and hover over the 'ctrl-z' buttons like I used to; but rather be brave, daring and bold and letting things fall together naturally.

Wow! Massive improvement! I felt sometimes that they style you drew in, that was similar to Arakawa's, held you back a bit; so it's nice to see you experimenting succesfully and playing around with your style! I'd love to see more stufff like this!

I'm hardly qualified to critique this, but compared to your previous work, this seems FAR more detailed and "worked over." I can literally see the extra time in the intricacy of the bow. Speaking of bows, one does not typically hold the string as is done here without an arrow nocked. Add the arrow, and you're all set.
Breaking down the rest, is that a choker on her neck as well as the necklace? I can't tell and it looks just a bit as though the neck is segmented--which I don't think is what you're aiming for (har har). The hair is awesome, the shadows around the face are great, and that look in her eyes ("What now?") belies her otherwise "tough as nails" demeanor, which I think is really pretty cool.
Can't comment on the bustline: don't have one; don't know. I just realized that she has no legs, and that's a touch disconcerting.
And...that's all I can complain about. She's pretty banged up and I suppose you could throw some blue bruising in bits if you wanted to go super realistic, but there you go. It's a nice piece. What's does it say in the background?

You know, I thought the same about the bow, but the ref I used was from a screenshot and if my memory serves me right, it's when she has no arrows, but then I gave her arrowsβ¦ah well, she's perhaps already shot her pervious arrow...
The necklace is a self adjusting one: referenced from the one she wears in the game. I think it's come out darker here on dA where you can't see the details of the braid in the necklace.Β
The background is the kanji for 'Yamatai' and 'Himiko'. If you've played the game then you'll know what they mean (or know a little about Japanese lore), if not Yamatai is the 'lost' island the game is set and Himiko is the Sun Queen of said island and is a major plot character.Β

Ah, see, I've not played the game(s), just basically aware of the character, and you're right about the lack of contrast re: necklace. If the details were more visible, there wouldn't be a question about it.
