I wanted to post, what I believed to be an iconic image of the beloved Ronnie James Dio, who was taken away from us this morning after a battle with stomach cancer.Dio is the greatest vocalist in metal and paved the way for metal to exist in the capacity it does today.
to say this is the most tragic loss in metal history, is a vast understatement.
RIP Dio. You will forever be the flame of which no one could ever hold a candle to.

NOTE - DD: Thanks so much for the DD - i feel so honored, but even more so, I am very happy that this is also honoring the greatest singer in metal of all time. Lets remember how amazing his music, his words, and everything that he gave to us. We should celebrate his presence - as it truely was a gift. RIP DIO.

When I heard that he passed away, I was very sad. I never had the chance to see him live, but it would have been a great honor to see the great Ronnie James Dio on stage. That new broke my heart in two, his music and him occupied an important place in me, the only thing I know is that he is in a better place, rocking with for example Dimebag Darrell ♥

He wasn't just the best metal singer to have ever lived, but I think his talent faced off with Michael Jackson's and Elvis Presley's for the best singer to ever exist.

This is the first I heard of his death...the last report I saw was that he was responding well to treatment but obviously it was too much for him. He was an inspiration to me as a singer and through his imagination as a lyricist...a very, very sad day indeed.

A legend. A true metal god. He will not be forgotten. I thought his passing had gone almost unnoticed in Argentine media only. I guess they only pay attention to people when they have a lot of bad things to say about them.

You're quite right... the media was everywhere last year at the death of people I hadn't even heard about, yet they completely ignored the death of Dio, the icon of so many things in music history. This is a great picture of him.

Has anyone else felt like 2010 is the year of metal musicians dying? Peter Steele died last month and I found out that Dio died when reading an article about Slipknot's bassist dying.
