Description
20th CENTURY FOX Marketing Art, Titan, SPACE CHIMPS. Pencil.I was contacted by an independent design studio to render the Space Chimps main characters for Fox directly from publicity stills as provided by Fox animation. Easy money. HaHa! It was my job to merely translate the 3-D art into 2-D line work. Nothing fancy. Just tedious.
Since the release date in the U.S. was yesterday, I guess it's relatively safe to now post this online. Nevertheless, all copyrights belong to 20th CENTURY FOX.
I think it was either very brave, or very dumb to launch this animated film in the wake of Pixar's WALL-E, Dreamworks' KUNG FU PANDA, and on the same release date as WB's THE DARK KNIGHT. I haven't seen CHIMPS, but from what I've glimpsed and read, it seems the studio may have produced the movie on a far less competitive budget. This strategy has succeeded in the past for those rare surprises. The marketplace is so cutthroat these days, but hopefully CHIMPS will find the audience and success it deserves.

Well, a couple years later, the release is long behind us and let's just call the reviews somewhat less than stellar. The CGI wasn't up to par with WALL-E or Monsters Versus Aliens but at least the humor and writing were better than Planet 51.
Personally, I loved the movie. Chimps get sent to a planet that looks like something out of a children's indoor play-center complete with ball-pool and Ham's cynical comedic style is the only thing that makes it seem less childish. I especially loved the part where they realize that all their button-pushing was pointless because the ship was running on auto the whole time.

Another great job, and that expression is Titan to...well, a 'T'! Warburton was definitely the right choice, as he's got that deadpan delivery down perfectly.
By thy side,

Why does this guy look like the Rock?
And...
YOU STILL OWE ME A NOTE!!! I'm telling my multiple personalities to get their pitchforks! (No, not torches, I'm already melting... What? Phosphorescent lights? OK, OK, if you insist!)
Anyway... glad to see you're still alive.

Nice work, the shading and the helmet look excellent, as well as the monkey itself.
and I just wanna say that Patrick Warburton is the perfect voice for this character too, though I could listen to him read the bible and still laugh.

I know you know that monkeys have tails, and apes don't.
And neither does Patrick Warburton.

Well, then he would have been on the "X-Files."
In any case, I doubt he'd like for us to discuss it.

Exactly. Why tick off The Tick? Why incur that sort of parasitic retribution?
One would be obliged to wear a Hartz 2-in-1 dog collar the rest of one's life.

Actually, the "Seinfeld" character he played was named, "Puddy." David Puddy.
But, close enough.

Thanks! But again, I was merely translating what they gave me. I had no influence on character.
This guy was voiced by actor Patrick Warburton, a comedic favorite of mine ever since his Seinfeld guest appearances, and his performance as "The Tick."
He would have made a great Captain Marvel in his younger days.
